Paul Gabriel :: MAN OF MANY BLUES
Acclaimed New England-based guitarist/singer Paul Gabriel latest CD, Man of Many Blues, coming from Smoke Ring Records. Produced by Duke Robillard (who also guests on the new CD), Man of Many Blues was recorded at Lake West Studio in West Greenwich, Rhode Island, by Jack Gauthier, and also includes perennial Blues Music Award nominee Sugar Ray Norcia (of Sugar Ray & the Bluetones) as a special guest.

“This is one of the most special recordings I have ever done,” Gabriel says about the new album. “It’s being dedicated to my dear friend, Georgia Louis, the great 1960s Gospel and Blues singer; and it’s also special in that this is my sophomore recording with Duke Robillard producing.”

Man of Many Blues contains 13 all-original songs featuring Gabriel backed by an all-star cast of musicians, including Duke Robillard (acoustic archtop guitar, electric guitar); Scott Spray (a veteran of both Edgar and Johnny Winter bands), long-time Gabriel friend and band member Frank Davis and Paul Opalach (bass); Mark Teixeira (drums); Sugar Ray Norcia (harmonica); Bruce Bears (piano and Hammond organ; Lonnie Gasperini (Hammond organ); Howard Eldridge (vocals); Christine Ohlman (backing vocals); Mark Earley (tenor and baritone sax); and Doug James (baritone sax). ...Find more about this artist and release

Clarksdale Film & Music Festival Celebrates Jan 24-26
(CLARKSDALE, MS) - Hollywood comes to Clarksdale? Or maybe it's Sundance? Nope. The world comes to Clarksdale — to celebrate movies, music and Mississippi, y'all.

The 10th annual Clarksdale Film & Music Festival returns Friday-Sunday, January 24-26, to celebrate its first decade in the historic downtown — an arts and entertainment district in the midst of revitalization due, in large part, to nightly blues music and annual festivals like this one.

"This is the tenth edition of our film festival, and it promises to be our biggest and brightest yet," said event co-founder Roger Stolle. "Even more exciting than this single event is all of the progress we've seen in the areas of blues tourism and downtown revitalization during our festival's first ten years. We like to think that our film festival and April's Juke Joint Festival had something to do with some of our progress here."

According to Stolle, this year's Clarksdale Film & Music Festival will showcase the small town's big successes and deep history. In addition to blues/roots music, civil rights and Mississippi-connected films (many featuring Clarksdale content and characters), this year's special weekend also includes multiple panel discussions and workshops with plenty of special guests. One panel will specifically cover Clarksdale's downtown revitalization. ...Find the 10th Clarksdale Film & Music Festival schedule and more info

5-day Weekend Brings Best of Scottish Blues Musicians to Edinburgh Feb 6-10
(EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND) - The 2020 Scottish Blues “Weekend” returns from Thursday Feb 6 to Monday Feb 10, bringing together Scottish blues icons and students of the blues.

Curated by singer, Nicole Smit and guitarists Jed Potts and Sandy Tweeddale, three Edinburgh musical talents with their fingers on the pulse of what’s hot in Scottish blues, the event aims to showcase the best of the music happening in Scotland right now.

They say, “The Scottish Blues Weekend shines the spotlight on Scottish Blues and offers a platform for new projects. It's great to be able to showcase such a diverse range of blues, as well as a host of bands led by women. We hope that you'll enjoy the weekend, and we especially hope that you'll see someone you might not have seen before.

"Fresh from her sell-out performance at Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival, Nicole Smit delivers a standout concert embracing contemporary tunes and stellar interpretations of the classics made famous by the inspirational blues women of the past. She is joined by Cera Impala in duo with Lake Montgomery (Delightful Squalor).
