The Mike Duke Project ::  …took a while
Singer/keyboardist/songwriter Mike Duke has flourished as an in-demand musician and performer for over 45 years, released his debut CD, the aptly titled …took a while, on the Little Village Foundation label. Recorded over a 40-year period, ...took a while includes four newly-recorded band tracks, plus a recent live solo piano piece.

The story of this album of all-original material, is deeply intertwined between Mike Duke’s life as a professional musician and former Huey Lewis & the News manager, Bob Brown, the driving force behind this album’s release. It was Brown who recognized Duke’s talents as a singer and songwriter in the early 1980s and set Mike on a path that led up to this album.

The four newly-recorded tracks on …took a while showcase Mike Duke’s southern soul vocals and piano work backed by a host of all-star guest musicians, including Elvin Bishop, Kid Andersen, Jim Pugh and Angela Strehli. For “Let Me Be Your Fool Tonight,” Northern California faves, The Zydeco Flames, bring the appropriate Louisiana sound and backing feel to the music. “Nicasio,” the solo piano piece that closes the album, was recorded at Rancho Nicasio, the San Francisco Bay Area roadhouse restaurant and nightclub owned by Bob Brown ...Find more about this artist and release

Battle Continues for Biscuits & Blues
As SF blues venue Biscuits and Blues’ closure drags on, court steps in…

(SAN FRANCISCO, CA) - A Jack in the Box restaurant in San Francisco’s Union Square neighborhood has been ordered by a San Francisco Superior Court judge to fix its faulty plumbing, which for several months last year leaked water and feces onto Biscuits and Blues, the old-school music venue below it that has remained closed for almost a year.

The order is part of a temporary injunction issued by the court on Monday. It comes roughly 10 months after the building at Geary and Mason streets began to have plumbing issues. According to the filing, Jack in the Box “must stop any leaks from the refrigerators and freezers up to and including unplugging the appliances.” It goes on to say Biscuits and Blues “continues to suffer irreparable harm” while the 24-hour burger joint operates.

The order does not specifically state which repairs need to be made or whether Jack in the Box will be forced to temporarily close.

Biscuits and Blues, which closed last April [2019], opened in 1995 and is one of the oldest Blues bar and restaurants in San Francisco, where the number of similar venues has been shrinking.

King Blues Band are thrilled to announce their new partnership with The B.B. King Estate. This joint venture now finds the two forces working together to bring the world The B.B. King Experience, the band's new working name. In addition to the upcoming world tour (dates listed below), the single "Rock Me Baby" featuring George Benson, Tito Jackson and Claudette King will be released this summer.

Five years since the passing of the great B.B. King, his towering influence over the blues world, and beyond, remains undimmed. King's music will never be forgotten, and the iconic bluesman's presence is felt stronger than ever as his spirit will appear on tour. With over 100 years of cumulative experience between them, the "Experience" not only supported King, but they would start each show by performing onstage before B.B. came on-stage. The B.B. King Experience's current line-up includes: James 'Boogaloo' Bolden (trumpet). Russell Jackson (bass and vocals), Wilbert Crosby (guitar and vocals), Darrell Lavigne (keyboards). Claudette King (vocals) and Myron 'Big Jack' Jackson (trumpet.)

Brick Fields Blues Therapy Memphis View
BFG friend Selby Miner shared this light-hearted recap from Rachel Fields of the Brick Fields Blues Therapy band who represented the Ozark Blues Society of Northwest Arkansas at IBC in Memphis.

“Hello Good People!
We made it back from the International Blues Challenge in Memphis on Sunday and it's taken a few days to wind down.

First I want to say thank you with all of my heart The Ozark Blues Society and to those of you who supported our trip, to those who came to show your support, to those who reached out with words of encouragement and prayers and to those who have reached out with love since we've been home.

Although we did not make it to the Finals, we did make it to the semi-finals!
Considering that Brick Fields Blues Therapy does not fit the standard "blues band" image which is set very high at the IBC's, this is truly a great feat! I have been to the IBC's 5 times (including this time). One of those times, Larry and I went to showcase but the others we were competing. We have never made the semi-finals. I literally ran down the hotel hall in my pj's at 2am to go tell the guys when I found out. It was very exciting!  ...Read the full recap
