 Sugar Blue :: COLORS
Colors was written and recorded on four continents: it reflects the constant research of sounds and emotions that drives Sugar Blue’s creative force. The songs are diverse in the concepts and eclectic in the delivery. The opening track is a tribute to Bo Diddley co-written with Nick Tremulis (Rick Danko/The Band). Guitar work by the usual suspect: Rico McFarland (James, Cotton, Lucky Peterson, Albert King, Tyrone Davis), a long-standing member of the Sugar Blue Band and instrumental in the funk and soul sounds throughout the album.
“Day Tripper” (The Beatles) delivered Chicago-style, with an arrangement inspired by the late great harmonica Maestro Junior Wells.

“Dirty Ole Man” is a classic blues and a rebuttal of toxic masculinity. Drummers Brady Williams and Yan Boodhoo provide the rhythm foundation with bassists Ilaria Lantieri (co-writer and arranger on some of the tunes) and Maestro Johnny B. Gayden, a legendary member of the Albert Collins band and historical session man.

2020 BMAs & HOF are Now Cancelled
An update from the Blues Foundation Mar 19, 2020

(MEMPHIS, TN) – The Blues Foundation has been tracking the global situation and assessing how to move forward in light of the current coronavirus pandemic.  In response to the most recent recommendations by the CDC and the States of Emergency in effect and called by our United States President, The Governor of the State of Tennessee, and the Mayor of Memphis, The Blues Foundation is writing to notify you of the following changes to our operations:
Beginning immediately, and until further notice, The Blues Hall of Fame Museum will be closed to the public. We will notify you immediately as soon as City, State, and Federal Agencies give direction that we can re-open for visitors and tour groups. Both the 2020 Blues Music Awards Show and Blues Hall of Fame Inductions Ceremony are cancelled as we continue to follow City, State, and Federal agencies' recommendations for public gatherings. In lieu of live events, The Blues Foundation is beginning work to create virtual events where we will celebrate our BMA nominees and winners and our 2020 Blues Hall of Fame Inductees. Please watch for updates on dates and times to tune in for these important blues events.

In response to the current COVID-19 crisis, in which so many blues musicians are finding tours and events canceled into the foreseeable future, The Blues Foundation will be creating a COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund for Blues Musicians. We are asking those who have purchased 2020 BMA tickets and/or Blues Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony tickets to convert those purchases to donations to be applied directly to this Emergency Relief Fund.

Safety first… Current Status of Festivals & Events
In solidarity and for the safety of all, a large majority of upcoming events into May 2020 have been cancelled or at least postponed for the time being with a few having rescheduled. Those that have cancelled are looking forward to coming back like gangbusters in 2021! In the meantime, we hope that you are staying as safe as possible. We hold out hope and believe that human kindness will excel in spite of the hardships so many of us may be facing in general now.

The Music Will Go On
A note from your e-Editor Michele Lundeen

As we all know, bars, clubs and restaurants are being ordered to close up around the globe. This is deeply affecting local and touring artists to the core. For many, this is their livelihood and many will be hurting financially not to mention emotionally.

As a musician myself, I know that music is our life and life’s blood… now is the time for a bit of transfusion and sharing all around. How can we not play music and share our passion?! A large variety of artists have starting doing live, virtual concerts online for fun and some are also accepting donations, and with open arms (well, you know what I mean). Some calling their concerts Quarantine Sessions! A few local venues are contemplating having only an artist or minimal band set up on their stage to live stream.

The list of artists that will be online performing live is endless! We are all pretty much in that same boat… cancelled gigs and tours and now home bound! Artists like Tommy Castro Band, Janiva Magness, and Nick Schnebelen among others have mentioned planning live streams. Shari Puarto let us know that since their Northern California tour was cancelled so The Shari Puorto Band has decided to bring you a live show to your home Saturday Mar 21 via Facebook! Mike Zito has even taken it a step further saying and he and his band have started to write and record an album which he says will wrap over the next 2 weeks! That album will only be available on his website.

Look up artists on the web and see what’s shaking. Visit the musician’s websites, watch their streams, donate if you can, send them messages, let them know you’re thinking of them one way or another. We are all in this together and the music will go on.

We sincerely wish you and yours the best of health and peace.

The European Blues Challenge 2020 Postponed
A Message from the Board

We regret to announce, as endorsed by the EBU as well as the DBF, the postponement of the European Blues Challenge 2020, due to the uncertainty regarding the status of the measures to be taken in the battle against Covid-19. It is unwise to persevere in continuing the Challenge. Also, several countries have informed the EBU that they will abstain from participating, either as precautionary measure or because of the restrictions imposed by their respective governments.

We emphasize that the Challenge is only postponed, not cancelled. We hope that the developments in the Covid-19-situation will make it possible to convey to all an alternate date before the summer holidays. Tickets bought will remain valid and the value transferred to the new date.We will keep you informed.

We deeply regret being forced to take this step, but the Covid-19-pandemic confronts us with an extraordinary situation with far-reaching consequences.

With the blues in mind and full regards,
The Board of the Blues in Zaanstad Foundation ...Find more details at links here
Music Can Be Comfort… Explore, Learn, Enjoy
A Message from Museum Director Shelley Ritter

(CLARKSDALE, MS) - Out of abundant concern for our staff, volunteers, students, visitors and other guests, Delta Blues Museum will temporarily close beginning Wednesday, March 18th through Thursday, April 2nd. Any scheduled events during this time will also be rescheduled. Additionally, our Arts & Education classes will be cancelled during this time.It is our hope to reopen on Friday, April 3rd to kick off Muddy Waters Month at the Museum. We will, of course, be closely monitoring the ongoing COVID-19 public health crisis in the interim and will make operational decisions as warranted.

Music can be a comfort at this time: For those in self-imposed quarantine or who may be sheltering in place, we hope you will explore our website and enjoy our "Explore and Learn" interactive series on several Blues greats and the art form the world has come to know and love. Or check out our Featured Videos & Podcasts. If you're looking to expand your music collection, please visit our Online Shop for a wide variety of Blues albums and collections. At the Museum, we have reinforced our public health practices and policies to maintain a sanitary and safe environment in our public spaces.
