Reggae The Best Music For Quarantine – Episcopal Priest - Father Mark Bozzuti-Jones Names Tosh, Marley

A Jamaican pastor, the Rev Dr Mark Bozzuti-Jones, is being hailed for his conscious reggae talk from the pulpit as he delivered a sermon to the faithful about the positive effects of the music created in the land of his birth.

The priest at Trinity Wall Street parish in New York City, where he is the director of core values and also the director of Latin American and Caribbean relations, served up some listen-to- reggaemusic-and-chill, quarantine advice.

“I am not sure if you are aware of this, but it is written, and if it is not written, then it should be written, that the best music during the time of quarantine is reggae music. So you should be listening to reggae music at home. I want to invite you to listen to two of my favourite pieces of music,” the Episcopal priest said while addressing his congregation virtually.
One of the pieces was Redemption Song, the fin
al track on Bob Marley and the Wailers’ 1980 Uprising project, the last album released by the reggae icon during his lifetime. The priest soberly quoted some of the lyrics of Redemption Song“How long shall they kill our prophets while we stand aside and look, some say it’s just a part of it we’ve got to fulfil the books.”

His other favourite turned out to be Creation by Peter Tosh, which appears on Tosh’s acclaimed Bush Doctor album (1978). He quoted some of the lyrics of this “powerful ballad, which echoes the words of the Psalmist”.

The clip was shared by Peter Tosh’s Instagram page and went viral, with the feedback being overwhelmingly positive not only from the music industry. In fact, another priest, Fr Sean Major Campbell expressed his delight. “His sharing affirms the value of our local prophets who spoke much wisdom. Sadly, on the local scene, we encounter a number of weirdos self-declaring a revered status of prophet. Fr Mark keeps in line with the prophetic tradition as he consistently speaks for the poor and the oppressed. He also stands with the reggae prophets, who continue to speak truth to power,” he said.

Anthony B Launches His 20th Studio Album, ‘King In My Castle’

Very few conscious dancehall artistes can say that their music has stood the test of time and is still requested in certain circles but one such stalwart, Anthony B, surely can. As he continues to make music that fans respond positively to, he’s announced the launch of his 20th studio album.

In a press release, it was stated that: “Many artistes have their respective milestones and Reggae artiste Anthony B releasing his 20th studio album is definitely one of them.”

The album titled King In My Castle has 19 tracks and was officially released on May 1, 2020. It is co-produced by Bon Fire Music and Zojak World Wide. His press team has said that the album is already making an impact on the world charts.

Reggae/Cannabis Icon Bob Marley's Grandson Bows To Family Heritage With New CBD Line
Being the grandson of reggae legend Bob Marley might be a burden for some but not Nico Marley. A former NFL player, the 25-year-old scion is not only proud of his grandfather’s legacy, he is happily treading in his path. However, it’s not music that galvanizes Nico these days but cannabis.

An outspoken proponent and devout user, Bob Marley championed what he deemed to be the curative, healing aspects of cannabis. Decades later, Nico is picking up the family mantle with the launch of Lion X, a new hemp-based CBD product line. Targeted for the “forever millennial looking to get the most out of life,” Lion X seems to be the natural offshoot of Nico’s family heritage. His dream nearly got dashed, however, when the timing of Lion X’s market debut on April 22 (Earth Day) went head on with the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I got scared and nervous," said Nico, describing how an unprecedented public health crisis derailed his original launch party and rollout plans. "I called everyone. It was literally seven days [before the launch]. I spoke to my parents about it. They told me just go. I relaxed. I closed my eyes and released it. I went from scared to relieved to happy. It worked out beautifully."

HERE'S MORE ABOUT INSTRUCTOR: Matt Jenson (pianist, composer, arranger, singer, and gifted educator) completed a master's degree in jazz piano and composition at New England Conservatory of Music (Boston). Jazz and blues form the backbone of nearly everything he teaches and performs but his deepest loves come from African diasporic music from the Caribbean, namely Reggae and Afro-Cuban music.

His love of reggae led him to create the “Music and Life of Bob Marley” class at Berklee and the class has brought him many deep associations with those in Marley’s inner circle (Rita Marley, Judy Mowatt and Chinna Smith, most notably) and in the international reggae scene in general.

He is currently touring with the San Francisco Bay area powerhouse reggae-jazz fusion band, Groundation (playing Hammond organ, clarinet and synth) and he leads his own reggae bands, the Liquid Revolution and his reggae-jazz group Mix Up Mix Up. His love of Afro Cuban music has given him the opportunity to study with Eddie Palmieri and to co-lead the reggae/latin fusion group Rebel Tumbao presenting Matt’s Afro-Cuban arrangements of Marley compositions. He currently co-leads a cultural/musical immersion trip to Jamaica each February called ‘Inside Reggae.’  He is also working on an online reggae educational platform called ‘Art of Reggae.’  Soon come!

I think we can word it better we don’t have to explain the lack of ads maybe we say that there’s hardly any festivals taking place this year so we will make sure our 2021 edition is epic blah blah more like pause instead of suspend ?

As of today, we decided to suspend the Reggae Festival Guide this year. With cancellations and uncertainties, we just do not have the advertising this year to support the magazine. We plan on coming back strong in 2021!
