Here's some thoughts about venues opening... share yours!
Hey Blues Fans!! We see some music venues are opening up around the country. I asked for your thoughts and here's what a few shared:
"We will feel comfortable attending shows when there is a vaccine, this really sucks. And RIP Charles Baty, we miss you... gone too soon" - Les & Fran Corry (Woodland, CA)
"Been watching most of the bands online lately and hearing some new ones I have not heard before... think it's been great there doing that. Hope to go to Prairie Dog Blues fest in July... hoping they don’t cancel it. Been going for years and love it, just worried if the bands don’t show up but would understand they're just trying to stay safe. Just would like to thank all the staff at Blues Festival E-Guide for doing a great job and keeping me entertained during all this craziness. Pray this is a great year for all of us and great Blues bands playing and making money to keep their great music going. God Bless." - Don Belongeay (De Pere, WI)
"I’d love to go, as a patron, but until there’s treatment or a cure I’m staying away from indoor venues. I spent $5000 to go on a Blues Cruise in late October; if they don’t cancel I’m just going to eat the money. I’m in a risk group, so I’m staying home." - David Menken
We're interested in your thoughts:
- Have you attended?
- If so, how was the vibe (i.e. joyous, awkward, crowding, etc.)
- If not, when will you feel comfortable attending?
- If you're a musician, have you performed live for an audience recently?
- If so, how was the vibe and attendance?
Email me with VENUES OPENING in subject line. Tell us where in the world you're located. Feel free to send me a pic of your favorite blues music experience if you like, too.
Wishing you all good health and peace,

A Message from The Blues Foundation
“This moment of grief can also be a moment of purpose."
- Brittany Packnett Cunningham
The Blues is an African American art form, originally created as an artistic expression and response to the oppression, dehumanization, and hatred this population had to endure. The Blues Foundation stands with the musicians and members of our community past and present who speak truth through music. In sadness and outrage, The Blues Foundation pays homage to the memories of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and all others whose lives were abruptly, unjustly, and hatefully ended. Each of these human beings was taken because of the individual and systemic racism that has pervaded the psyche of America for 400 years. We grieve with the families, and we will join the greater conversation for the eradication of racism in deference to the legacy of the Blues.
“The moral arc of the universe is long, but it bends towards justice.”
- Martin Luther King Jr.

Pascal Bokar :: "The Blues Don't Like Nobody"
This new Blues-based CD entitled American Trails by virtuoso guitarist/vocalist Pascal Bokar. connects the American musical traditions of the South with the original 4-string instrument from Mali West Africa, Ngoni or banjo and the West African balafon (ancestor of the xylophone) in a powerful rhythmic and multi sonic contemporary gumbo that one has yet to discover. The album was recently awarded Deep Mission's Best Of 2019 on KALX Radio Berkeley, and PICA Netherlands HIT-Tracks Top 100 "High Five" Highly Recommended Albums of the Week, and mentioned on Top HitzUK.
American Trails deepens Pascal Bokar’s exploration of the Blues in his “AfroBlueGrazz” concept with an opening, ear-popping version of Blues great Otis Spann’s composition, “The Blues Don’t Like Nobody,” in a duet with vocalist Paula Harris and some blistering scat/guitar singing.
