School counselors provide outreach over the summer
Through the support of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation's Community Crisis Action Fund, most schools in the North Country were able to provide outreach to students and their families over the summer. Upon assessing the need and the willingness of school counselors to provide outreach, funding was made available to the 26 school districts served by North Country Education Services.

Supporting Social and Emotional Learning
NCP4SEL guidance document linkA regional partnership of school districts and area agencies serving northern New Hampshire has been working collaboratively over the past few years with a mission to support social and emotional well-being from birth to adulthood throughout the North Country.

This partnership, North Country Partnership for SEL Practices (NCP4SEL), has involved a wide cross-sector of stakeholders, including technical assistance from CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning).

NCP4SEL has created a free comprehensive guidance document to assist school districts and area agencies in implementing and supporting best practices in social and emotional learning.

North Country Virtual UDL Video Club

cast websiteJoin CAST for a unique opportunity to gain support throughout this uncertain school year. Together, we will analyze classroom video footage and design approaches for remote, hybrid, or face-to-face instruction using Universal Design for Learning (UDL)!

Who? Any K-12 educator (i.e., general educator, special educator, specialist, any content area) in NH’s North Country. CAST is seeking small teams (up to 5) of educators in 3 different schools who are interested in learning about UDL and exploring classroom video footage.

What? Funded by Jane’s Trust, the Virtual UDL Video Club is an opportunity for educators to collaborate to design engaging, accessible, and challenging learning environments for all students. Teachers will come together virtually to share and explore video footage from their own classrooms (face-to-face, virtual, or hybrid settings).

When? Teams of teachers will meet monthly at a time that is best for them.

Where? An online platform called Learning Designed will serve as the “home” for Video Club. This platform allows teachers to upload, view, and comment on video clips as well as to host virtual Video Club sessions.

Why? Video Club will support teachers in this upcoming year of uncertainty as we analyze video to design approaches to support all learners. Video Club supports teachers to:

  • Apply UDL in the design of accessible, challenging learning opportunities
  • Implement strategies to reduce barriers to learning for all learners, with a particular focus on traditionally underserved students
  • Develop a North Country collaborative community focused on UDL in rural settings
  • Co-design structures and resources such as a Video Club Protocol and a Video Club Guidebook to support and sustain the model
  • Engage in a larger community of  NH educators who are committed to UDL by connecting with CAST’s NH UDL Innovation Network

Cost? There is no cost to participate! Participating teachers will receive a small stipend.

For more information, please contact Dr. Jenna Gravel jgravel@cast.org, Allison Posey aposey@cast.org, or Susan Shapiro sshapiro@cast.org. We’d love to hear from you!

NH UDL Innovation Network

The New Hampshire Universal Design for Learning (NH UDL) Innovation Network is a multi-year job-embedded/school-site based professional learning program for New Hampshire educators who are committed to empowering all learners. CAST is accepting applications for twelve new schools to join.
