Debbie Bonds :: BLUES WITHOUT BORDERS
"High Rider Blues"
Website

“Sixth in the series of Debbie’s contemporary run of recordings, Blues Without Borders stretches her reach in her field of genres: traditional blues, blues-rock, Southern soul and now world music. Writing from the heart’s experience and expectations, her original songs are never dry words set in sound.

Stepping in now are new outlooks caused by world and local situations strained through the universal sieve of the pandemic. Pleas for trust and faith in each other run alongside declarations like “Let Me Be” and “Blue Rain.” “Winds of Change” and “Shades of Blue” wear the Muscle Shoals style like an old tattoo. Surely Willie King smiles each time a new listener plugs into “Let Freedom Ring” – a true anthem in the ‘70s style that could be played on a solo piano or thronged with a full orchestra and chorus. Rick Asherson’s electric piano reminds us of Leon Russell driving Joe Cocker’s band during those big concert days.

Then there is that lived-in amenity of guest saxophonist Ray Carless on “Blues Without Borders” and “Heart of the Matter.” A Jamaican long residing in London’s jazz scene, Carless’ phrasing and placements set these songs like conversations around a table.

Some albums are once-and-done. Blues Without Borders will seduce the ears of those who find comfort in repeated listening. It is one of those albums that opens windows to let the curtains dance.”
- Dave Gallaher “Talkin’ the Blues with Microwave Dave” Radio Show
News Flash...
Prairie Dog Blues Festival July 30-31 on St. Feriole Island
(PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, WI) - The Prairie Dog Blues Festival is one of the most laid-back blues festivals out there! It is held every year on Wisconsin’s historic St. Feriole Island in a beautiful city park, right on the Mississippi River and nestled between jagged cliffs and green hills untouched by the Ice Age! Once you get that cold drink in your hand, great tunes in your ear and good, friendly people all around, you'll realize you're at one of the most beautiful venues anywhere and will soon be calling yourself a Prairie Dogger!

This year's festival is July 30-31 and features: Ally Venable Band, Reverend Raven & The Chain Smokin' Altar Boys Featuring Westside Andy, Lil' Ed & The Blues Imperials, John Németh, Hooten Hallers, Avey Grouws Band, Roscoe Foster and The Rascal Theory, Bell Bros. Blues Revival (Lurrie and Steve Bell), Amanda Fish, Tony Holiday, Altered Five Blues Band, and Vella. Plus, there is onsite camping or hotels nearby with shuttles running back and forth.

You can camp right on site with your friends and meet new friends! Typical walk from your site to the gate of the festival is 200-300 yards. Food and drink as well as campfires, singing, playing music and telling stories is strongly encouraged. The festival is a 1-block walk off The Island and you are downtown surrounded by family-owned pubs, restaurants and small retail stores. Most of the downtown pubs this year will have bands as well. If staying in a motel is more your style, blues fest shuttles will get you to the fest in a 5-minute drive or less!

Tickets and camping are available online after May 1 at the website. Information on accommodations can be found here or by calling 800-732-1673. Like our Facebook page and watch to win free tickets to the Fest!

Endless Blues Records Releases three new albums
(MEMPHIS, TN) - Memphis Based Endless Blues Records recently released Keep Moving On, a soul blues album by Mississippi Electric Bluesman Dexter Allen and Between Midnight and Louise, an acoustic blues album featuring some great guitar work by Mississippian Chris Gill.  These two albums have already received significant radio play and very positive critical reviews.  These two albums have consistently hit the top of the charts for blues artists from Mississippi – where it all began!

These albums will soon be followed by Mick Kolassa’s latest, Wasted Youth, an album featuring his “Free Range Blues” stylings, produced by Mick and Jeff Jensen who were joined by Bill Ruffino on bass, Rick Steff on keys, Doug McMinn and James Cunningham on Drums, Eric Hughes on harp, Marc Franklin on trumpet, Kirk Smothers on Sax, and Tullie Brae on background vocals. Guest appearances included by Brad Webb, David Julia and Albert Castiglia on guitar, and Victor Wainwright on piano.

As with all of Mick’s albums, the profits from this release will all be donated to the Blues Foundation’s HART Fund and Generation Blues programs – read about them at the Blues Foundation website.

Contact Mick Kolassa via Facebook, website, or email.
A New Beginning for Television and the Markey Blue Ric Latina Project
The Markey Blue Ric Latina Project has had an amazing run when it comes to getting songs placed in both film and national television shows. Almost every one of their releases has had a song either picked up or has had national placement.

With the upcoming new album in the works, and a release date of Feb 1st 2022, The Markey Blue Ric Latina Project is happy to announce that already two songs off the new album have been picked up for film and television placement, and possibly more to come.

"The shutdown had really taken a toll on us and musicians everywhere,” says Markey Blue. “Our world came to a screeching halt, and music felt like it was the furthest thing away. But because of our wonderful blues family helping us with our Go Fund Me we've been able to get back into the studio and get songs done enough to start pitching. We can't thank y'all enough!"

Just in case:
July 12th is "National Pecan Pie Day!" 90% of Americans surveyed believe eating a slice of pie is one of life’s simple pleasures. Though many southern states have pecans, and are famous for their pecan pies, Texas is the only state with pecan pie as its official state dessert!

I had some pecan pie in a famous New Orleans diner once. A local recommended it be heated up... I didn't realize they would be slapping it on the grill in butter! Whoa! And it was divine!

Where have you had your fave pecan pie?
