From Germany...UWE BANTON releases new album - FREE YOUR MIND
A critical take on current affairs and spirituality converge in a Roots-Reggae styled extravaganza Uwe Banton, firm fixture on the German Reggae scene, and a known dreadlocked Rastafarian, has just dropped his new album titled “Free Your Mind”. Expect a smooth blend of Caribbean riddims, conscious lyrics and musical mastery.

Banton’s new album will be available on CD and all major digital download/streaming services. Blend of Roots, Reggae, Ska, Lovers Rock, Rocksteady and Afrobeat; true to Jamaica’s motto “Out Of Many, One People”. The opening track, “Ark of the Covenant”, is an extremely and literally heartfelt track, starting off with heartbeat-like drums and setting the scene for the many musical revelations to come.

Uwe Banton, whose real name is Uwe Schäfer, is a true northwestern original from the North Rhine-Westphalia region of Germany, but is also known well beyond the country’s borders. The 55-year-old singer has earned his place in the Reggae hall-of-fame, way beyond the European scene, and has a dedicated worldwide following. Uwe Banton’s fourth studio album is the result of a collaboration with Ganjaman, another Reggae heavyweight out of Germany, and bears witness to Banton’s affinity to his Rastafari faith, a spiritual philosophy that has its roots in Jamaica; just like Reggae Music itself. Banton celebrates the roots of Reggae in his music, continuing to spread the message of Rastafari out into the world. Whimsical and easy, yet at the same time, highly profound, Banton asks some of the big questions about the meaning of human nature and life itself, on the brand-new album: “Free your Mind”

Banton sings about freeing the mind and reminds us of important values that might bring us closer to our true selves and to ultimately making the world a better place.

“Free Your Mind” bespeaks the international appeal of both Reggae—the music of the Rastafarians, which has been a global phenomenon since the 1970s—and of the Rastafarian lifestyle itself, which also keeps inspiring people everywhere.

New Single Out Friday July 16! "Don't Do That" from Link&Chain
"Don't Do That" came about because of the situation in Jamaica with the youths killing each other with the gun. It's been like that for many years and it's perpetual. We're here now trying to encourage the youths to develop the ability to reason instead of shooting each other. It's important that we preserve ourselves because we're the future. It's the tradition of the Rastaman to make sure that youths stay positive; we should be able to strengthen each other as a people.

Rastafari is love and unity. Rastafari is about building the community. Rastafari is a oneness, we hope to be able to at least encourage the youths to have a different mindset.

We want to give thanks for the good people that surround us through the connections we have made. We were blessed to link with Issachar Muzik Record Label who is part of the cultural revolution, helping to push the culture aspect of reggae to where it's supposed to be. Our connection with Issachar has been very fruitful, and we are so thankful to have our music distributed by the legendary Tuff Gong International and we hope to continue the relationship with more new releases.

Link&Chain is a band of brothers that have been harmonizing together and co-writing their songs for decades since their early days in Jamaica. The name was chosen because of its significance to the struggle of our ancestors and it also significant to the unity of InI coming together & holding together as links on a chain. The group came together in 1986 as a trio and still has three of its original members.

O.C. Roberts Gets A Little Help From His Friends... O.C. Roberts & Friends
Veteran Reggae music artiste O.C. Roberts has released his new seven track EP O.C. Roberts & Friends available now on his own O.C. Roberts Music label and distributed worldwide by Tuff Gong International. O.C. gets a little help from his longtime musical friends on this EP including Glen Washington, Carl Malcolm and NYC based singer Chyna Nicole. He was also assisted once again by Jamaican legend Ansel Collins on the song "All Night Loving" and music production side. The relationship between the two that goes back to the formitive days of Reggae.

The EP features original and some great cover versions of some familiar favorites. This is his third release since his album Made In Jamaica was released last year.

EP Tracks:
1. O.C. Roberts feat. Chyna Nicole - Having My Baby
2. Glen Washington - Rainy Days
3. O.C. Roberts - Never Can Say Goodbye
4. Carl Malcolm - Muck Up
5. O.C. Roberts - Ring Of Fire
6. Ansel Collins - All Night Loving
7. O.C. Roberts - How Glad I Am

O.C. Roberts started as a young man honing his craft in Kingston at The Bohemia Club, where he was the lead singer of the resident band The Mighty Titans. They backed many artists such as Marcia Griffith, Dennis Brown, The Wailing Souls, The Mighty Diamonds, The Tamlins to name a few.

While performing, he was discovered by Dougie Rod Bryan, lead guitarist of The Revolutioniares recording band, who’s drummer was Sly Dunbar, and keyboard player was Ansel Collins. O.C. recorded the reggae version of Teddy Pendergrass' smash hit “Wake Up Everybody” for Sonya Pottinger’s High Note label which went on to hit #16 on the British Reggae Charts. He went on to record “Funny Feelings”, “Living a Life” and “Hey You” for record label Electro Sun. All of these songs were backed by the tight sound of The Revolutionaires.

O.C. then moved to Detroit and met Ian Allen (now at Universal Music Group) and Ira McLaughlin (formerly of Atlantic Records), and crafted a Reggae band together named The Samaritans which quickly became the #1 reggae band in Detroit.

After that success, O.C. took a hiatus to focus on radio for 12 years at WRCJ 90.9 FM. He completed his latest album Made In Jamaica in 2019 including songs, "Made in Jamaica", “Haters", "Cut Them Off", and "Calling My Name” which is released and distributed worldwide through Tuff Gong International, Bob Marley’s label and distribution company

The Reggaeton Song That's Driving Cuba's Unprecedented Protests

Cuba is suffering through a summer of dire shortages, from food and electricity to medicine. Fed-up Cubans are taking to the streets in unprecedented protests — and they're voicing their outrage through a song called Patria y Vida — homeland and life.

The slogan is a spin on the communist regime's decades-old slogan of "patria o muerte" — homeland or death. In strong terms, the song accuses the government of destroying the quality of life in Cuba, a message that quickly found traction with protesters who are demanding change.

"No more lies. My people demand freedom. No more doctrines!" the song says. It calls for people to shout "patria y vida ... and start building what we dreamed of/ what they destroyed with their hands." The viral hit has become a political slogan.

Chris Brown Sued For $1.5m Over ‘Sample’ Of Red Rat’s Dancehall Classic “Tight Up Skirt”
Chris Brown, and Sony Music, who distributed the song that allegedly illegally sampled Red Rat’s classic, are being sued for copyright infringement by Greensleeves Publishing Limited, a New York-based record label.

The lawsuit by Greensleeves Record accuses Chris Brown, his music producers, and Sony Music of ripping off one of dancehall’s most iconic hits- “Tight Up Skirt,” which has become a classic from the 90s dancehall era.

Jamaica - Nikki Z Returns To The Airwaves: Bridge 99 FM
The Caribbean Queen of radio ‘Nikki Z’ returns home to radio on Bridge 99 FM, Mondays- Fridays, 1:00 pm -5:00pm, starting Wednesday, July 14. Bridge 99FM ia an IRIE Jam Media Group affiliate in Jamaica, and will be the only radio station that simulcasts shows between Jamaica and New York. The Bridge’s programming will air on its sister station IRIE Jam Radio, 93.5 FM in New York. Nikki Z's show will aptly be called 'The Crossover".

For Nikki, this is a coming-of-age and returning-home moment, as the mega-talented media personality, whose real name is Nicole Duhaney, received her first breakthrough from IRIE Jam more than 20 years ago. Since then she has gone on to build her brand and notoriety to become one of the top female disc jocks and one of the most recognizable media personalities in the industry.

Nikki’s talents have be recognized by Reggae royalty, Damian "Jr Gong" Marley , who handpicked Nikki Z as the first and only female deejay to perform on now legendary JamRock Reggae Cruise which she performed at for four years.  Nikki Z ‘the actor’, immortalized herself as a staple in the dancehall industry in the 2016, when she was casted as herself in Nick Cannon’s film, "King of Dancehall".

The dj attributes her longevity to her devotion to Caribbean culture and genuine love for the music, playing from the heart and not for the fame.

According to Nikki “ My role is to put our culture on display. I do this by using my voice and platforms afforded to me to promote Caribbean music wherever I go. Anything else, everyone else can own but when it comes to music, that’s my gift... it's what I go to bed thinking of. I wake up with music playing inside me. Music is what I breathe. This is the 'Bridge' that I have been waiting for.

The same tell-it-as-it-is attitude from the sultry-voiced radio personality, whose roots are grounded in St. Elizabeth is what listeners and viewers can expect with a lot more, as her craft has evolved and grown. The US Army Vet, whose career in radio dates back to the 90s, worked on IRIE Jam during her early years where she transitioned to her biggest stint on Caribbean radio with ZIP FM in 2016. Since then, Nikki Z has captivated audiences throughout the Caribbean, the U.S., UK, and other territories via her online radio show Nikki Z Live, with listenership in the Millions.

The IRIE Jam Media Group was founded 28 years ago by Robert "Bobby" Clarke, who acquired 99FM band in Jamaica in spring and is poised to revolutionize media in Jamaica and the Caribbean.

Audiences can expect good vibes and truth from Nikki Z's new show, "The Crossover."
