2022 Jazz & Heritage Festival Set for April 29-May 8
(NEW ORLEANS, LA) - As a result of the current exponential growth of new COVID cases in New Orleans and the region and the ongoing public health emergency, we must sadly announce that the 2021 edition of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival presented by Shell, scheduled to take place October 8-17, 2021, will not occur as planned. We now look forward to next spring, when we will present the Festival during its traditional timeframe. Next year’s dates are April 29-May 8, 2022.

Ticketholders for both Festival weekends (including those that rolled over their tickets from 2020) will receive an email this week with details about the ticket refund and rollover process. All Wednesday, October 13 tickets will be automatically refunded.

In the meantime, we urge everyone to follow the guidelines and protocols put forth by public health officials, so that we can all soon experience together the joy that is Jazz Fest.

Mark Cameron :: BACK FROM THE EDGE
"2nd Job"
Website

Recorded in 2020, Back From The Edge continues the foot-stompin’, butt shakin’ sound that Mark Cameron is known for while adding an expanded range of songs as only Cameron can pen them – from the soul. This suite of ten original songs will take you on a memorable journey through the blues in its many forms.
The album kicks off with the funky-hooky riffs of “It’s Alright”, a satire-laced commentary with sassy guitar and gritty harmonica sparing throughout. In “This Is The Blues” Cameron unleashes the full force of the horn section to drive home all the little things in life that can add up to the blues and the liberation that comes from just admitting it. Cameron winds the amp up to the max and plugs in the Dobro for some nasty slide blues on “2nd Job”. The relationship theme continues on “Never See It Comin” with Sheri Cameron driving home the point on grinding saxophone.

The mood turns playful and funky again on “All There Is To It.” The title track “Back From The Edge” takes a brutally honest look at the world we live in. Cameron’s soulful message is enhanced with guest performances by organist Tommy Barbarella (New Power Generation) and soul singers Tonia Hughes and Sara Renner. The listener can sense that the tongue is planted firmly in-the cheek on “One Size Fits All,” then the mood shifts to a hypnotic slow blues on “All Dressed Up,” while the rhythm section of drummer Dan Schroeder and bassist Scott Lundberg deliver an infectious groove, before the gritty slide blues of “Dollar For Liquor.” The album concludes with the dreamy, summer-of-‘68 inspired “Lost And Found.

Just in case:
International Youth Day on August 12 focuses on the difficulties that some young people are experiencing throughout the world. This brings to mind an organization called "Playing for Change Foundation," a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to building music and art schools for children around the world, and creating hope and inspiration for the future of our planet. The offer creative opportunities for marginalized and at-risk youth, most specifically in the developing world.

Music is a healer and there it is so rewarding to offer children music and a means to express themselves through it. There are also hundreds or Blues In The Schools programs and blues camps as well, often in at-risk and low-income areas. To see a child's face light up with music is a joy beyond measure.
