DLI NEWSLETTER 12 AUGUST 2021
LATEST NEWS
This edition is dedicated to the 55th DLI Summer School which just ended last Saturday 7 August.  Our main priority was the safety of all participants, so each of the six classes remained in their bubbles for the week, living in the same apartments, and dining together in The Stables. With Covid precautions in place (thanks to our Covid Officer, Kris Mooney, who remained on campus all week), our six tutors could concentrate on working with their classes to allow them to leave UL with that famous summer school feeling of achieving the very best in their chosen areas of acting, directing, movement and technical.  By all accounts, that goal was reached as usual in 2021!!

There are just a selection of photos below -there will be many more in the Autumn edition of the DLI Magazine, due to be issued in October.

PS: Please note that DLI Administrator Valerie is on holiday next week.  Email your enquiries to office@dli.ie, and she will answer on her return on 23 August.

OLLIE KENNY,  DLI SUMMER SCHOOL DIRECTOR 2021
Hi Everyone

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who was at our 55th annual Summer School in UL last week. It was an ideal outlet for the creativity and relaxation which we have all craved over the past 18 months, and I salute every one of you for the contribution that you made to make it such an amazing experience. It was a great success on pretty much every level. The safety aspects were adhered to diligently and without complaint by everybody, and everyone deserves great credit for their understanding of the need to have such strict standards. It meant that the classroom environment was run as close to normal as possible, with the feedback from each course being overwhelmingly positive. Our tutors proved to be very popular with all, and the level of learning on each course has been significantly acknowledged.

Our social programme had a different slant than normal, but it again proved that, with a little foresight and planning, it was possible to have some very enjoyable nights in The Stables at UL - when did we last enjoy a social occasion in such a restricted, yet safe, environment? Great credit is due to the planning and thoughtful care that was put into this year's summer school, and I'd like to acknowledge here the hard work put in by the summer school committee (Willie O'Brien, Christine O'Brien & Elaine McLoughlin, assisted by DLI Administrator Valerie McGuile) to ensure the successful completion of SS 2021. Thank you all for your enthusiasm and total commitment. Roll on DLI Summer School 2022 - only 49 and a half weeks to go!

SUMMER SCHOOL 2021 BEGINS.....
Registration on 31 July was slightly different this year, as each 'check-in' began with an Antigen Test administered by Nurse Grace Kemple.  DLI Chairman Willie O'Brien pictured receiving his test.
