We hope you are all enjoying the DLI Magazine, edited for the first time by Edward Hayden  - interviews, drama features, what to look out for in 2022, great photos - it's all there!! If, by any chance, you have not received a copy, or require additional copies, let us know on office@dli.ie.
 ADCI/DLI ONE ACT CIRCUIT

With the One Act Festival circuit getting ever closer (starts next weekend!), the excitement is mounting as everyone looks forward so much to getting back on stage in festivals all over the country. The excitement of the results, the qualifying stages for the Finals in Ennis, and the awards themselves are all at stake. The temperature is rising rapidly! Unfortunately, we have had a few groups having to withdraw for various reasons.  We hope to have an update on the revised festival schedule before the weekend.

Suzanne Healy, Skerries TG writes:

This workshop was really enjoyable and enlightening with a comfortable group of 12 people in total. Geoff O’Keeffe’s program for the day was very engaging. He demonstrated wide expertise in all aspects of theatre – particularly acting and direction. It’s fair to say that on the day, we learned a lot and had great fun. The venue, an upstairs studio space in Skerries Community Centre, was roomy, light, well-ventilated and very suitable.

The 1-to-7 approach for direction and receiving direction was very practical. It could enhance content delivery and voice volume. It could guide energy levels, movement, pacing, physicality. Many of the exercises on the day were about using our whole bodies – not just from the neck up – to draw in and to entertain our audience. Columbian hypnosis (after Boal), being guided by another’s moving hand, allowed us to try to move in ways we didn’t know our bodies could move.

The script-based work (after Conall Morrison’s adaptation of Patrick Kavanagh’s ‘Tarry Flynn’) was for me, the highlight of the day. It was a brilliant window into the whole world of ensemble acting, stressing the importance of listening within the ensemble. The 2-page long piece did indeed seem to come alive as if by magic.

PERFORMING THE CHARACTER in CASTLEBRIDGE
Patricia Doyle, Bridge DG, writes:

Bridge Drama and friends gathered last Saturday 16th in Castlebridge Community Centre to 'Perform the Character' with tutor Imelda McDonagh.  We spent the morning moving, feeling and imagining......  Then, in the afternoon, we put our new found knowledge and awareness into practice in acting out scenes.  An ideal way to knock off the Covid cobwebs, and much enjoyed by all!!
