(CLEVELAND, MS) - Join GRAMMY Museum® Mississippi November 15th at 7pm EST as they feature singer-songwriter Don Bryant for an evening of hit songs and ‘behind the scenes’ stories as part of the Words & Music: A Songwriter Series, moderated by Scott Bomar.

Singer/songwriter Don Bryant was born in Memphis, Tennessee. He began singing in church at age 5, and soon joined his father's family vocal group. As a teenager, Bryant was offered a shot at songwriting and began writing material for artists at Hi Records, the label of veteran producer Willie Mitchell. Bryant is credited on as many as 154 titles including songs recorded by Al Green and Otis Clay. He also co-wrote his wife Ann Peebles’ iconic song, “I Can't Stand the Rain.” The two have been married for over 50 years.

It is going to be a great evening full of incredible stories and undeniable talent!

The main idea behind Blues and Jazz Poetic Cafe is to provide space, stage, and forum for Artists who think that poetry and lyrics in blues and jazz matter. Each Cafe features educational lectures and presentations, readings and recitations by poets, actors/actresses, open mike presentations, poetry contest, poetry and book reviews, music presentations, interviews with prominent guests, Fine Arts Gallery, Artistic Photo Gallery, Video Presentations, Screenings and Film Shorts presentations, Merchandise sales, Book sales, and Donations.

David Dot Hale, a.k.a. Blind Lemon Peel in the Red Hat, hits the stage of Blues and Jazz Poetic Cafe, Wednesday, November 3, at the Barbara Morrison Performing Art Center (4305 Degnan Blvd., #101) Los Angeles, California. Doors 7pm, show 7:30pm.

Be prepared for the mix of variety, vaudeville, comedy, freak and cabaret show, one of a kind, an all-in-one experience rooted in hearty bluesy traditions of songsters, shouters, growlers, and talkers exemplified in modern blues by John Lee Hooker, Howling Wolf and Koko Taylor trapped in a small town fairground circus and merry-go-round atmosphere suddenly frequented by Captain Beefheart and furthered to Waitsonian hoboes like reality spiced by Kansas Jump Blues jazzy piano of New Orlean’s Dr. John and this is how you ultimately arrive at the show perfectly emceed by the Master of this musical gumbo ceremony - Mr. Blind Lemon Peel his own bad self.
Inaugural OB Blues Fest happens Sunday Nov 7th
(OCEAN BEACH, CA) - The Inaugural OB Blues Fest will be held Sunday Nov 7th at 2 PM at popular venue, Winstons Beach Club (1921 Bacon St.) in the heart of San Diego’s Ocean Beach. Appearing will be an allstar lineup including many multiple award-winning artists like Vizztone recording artist Casey Hensley, “The Queen of Boogie Woogie” Sue Palmer & her Motel Swing Orchestra, “The Queen of Steam” Michele Lundeen, Robin Henkel, The Manzanita Blues Band, BMA Nominee Laura Chavez, Jimmy Woodard, Liz Ajuzie, Steve Wilcox, Victor Franklin, Karl Dring, Ric Lee, April West, Jonny Viau and many more! The festival is the brainchild of longtime friends Ric Lee of Bayou Brothers Productions and Paul Bolton of Electric Playgrounds. The pair felt Ocean Beach was ready for its own blues festival and looks forward to it bringing down the house.

"Blues fans need to step out now, especially to support the smaller clubs that have been in limbo for nearly two years," says Ocean Beach local resident and blues fan Mary Ann Haskell. "This festival will be like a fun ‘family’ reunion." Lee, Bolton and the blues artists and blues community at large are counting on it. The 1st OB Blues Fest is 21+ and limited tickets are only $12 at Eventbrite
Blues Brothers Docuseries in the works
Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi's estate are working on a new docuseries about The Blues Brothers classic movie. The Blues Brothers began as a series of Saturday Night Live sketches, which were then adapted into the 1980 film featuring Belushi and Aykroyd as Jake and Elwood Blues. The plot follows Jake and Elwood, who only have a matter of days to reunite their R&B band to save the Catholic home that raised them. The movie, directed by John Landis, also features Carrie Fisher, John Candy, and Frank Oz, among many other actors and cameos, along with music icons such as James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Pinetop Perkins, Cab Calloway, Chaka Kahn, Steve Cropper, Donald “Duck” Dunn, Matt “Guitar” Murphy, Willie “Big Eyes” Smith, Calvin “Fuzz” Jones, and Ray Charles.

The new, yet to be titled docuseries, will include unseen footage and dive deep into the origins, development, music, legacy of the characters and actors behind them, friendships and production of The Blues Brothers, with significant input from Aykroyd and the estate of the late John Belushi.

“Much will be revealed that even I, as one of the originators, might not have been aware of,” said Ackroyd. “In the end, it will be all about the artists and their music.” The documentary will “frame the Blues Brothers phenomenon as a springboard to explore the greater world of blues, rhythm and blues and gospel,” said Belushi-Pisano. The series will also tackle “the sensitivities of race in the music industry and reveals the mindsets, intentions and follow-through of the creators.”
Music Maker Tends the Roots of American Music...
...That's what they've done for more than a quarter century. Music Maker programs serve the most vulnerable artists – those marginalized by age, poverty, race, gender, etc. – because these are the artists least likely to have the resources to share their musical messages with the world. Music Maker hopes that their new website gives those artists the showcase they deserve.

On the site, you can easily find colorful stories of individual artists we've served over the years, you can take journeys of discovery through different styles of music, and you can learn everything you need to know about Music Maker. And they'll be adding new content all the time.

Just in case:
National Author's Day is Nov 1st. Regardless of what time period or where they’re from, authors have always had the ability to teach, entertain, and move us.

So what is an author? Well, historically and permanently, it’s someone who uses their words to move their followers.

Well, I'm going to take the liberty to say let's not only salute authors of blues books that are historical, educational and fictional, but also songs.... which certainly move us as well.
