The Difference A Recording Can Make – Patty Tuite
I may be stating the obvious, but as a songwriter I can’t stress enough how important recording a new song is.  Songwriters tend to have dozens of snippets in their heads at any given time, but until they get recorded, they can remain dormant simply as ideas, or possibly lost forever. I have tried out new songs with bands and it’s hit or miss as to getting all of the ideas realized. I concentrate on my own playing and it’s hard to absorb song as an entire piece. Once it gets recorded, however, it’s a whole new ballgame. It becomes a concrete piece of work.

There’s a big difference between home-recording and studio recording, as well (another obvious statement). You may save some dollars by keeping the recording process low-key, but using a studio with a good producer is well worth the expense. Not only is the quality of the mixing and mastering far better, but the input and collaboration of working with someone outside of the band can have a huge impact. Once the recording is completed, it’s a standard to use in live performances. Going on creative tangents from the recording in live settings can be a thrill, which is why concert and festival settings are great. Audiences appreciate both the skill of playing the song and the ability to take it somewhere new (and come back to it). Playing a song without a recording of it makes it hard for the audience to remember it, so make high-quality recording as often as you possibly can!

The Spirit Of Christmas Rock ‘n Blues Explosion Fest Dec 11
(MEXICO CITY, MX) - Big hearted performers are coming together Saturday, December 11 for The Spirit Of Christmas Rock ‘n Blues Explosion Fest. The event will raise funds and create awareness for street animal rescue in Mexico City and Mexico and will be held at Hobos Bar & Restaurant, located at Pl. San Jacinto 23 A, San Ángel, Álvaro Obregón, 01000 Ciudad de México, CDMX).

Fest organizer Bob Rempel, of Tequila Rock ‘n Blues Explosion events and fests has created the Animales Angeles Fund. Blues/rock harmonica master Isidoro Negrete Reynoso accepted Rempel’s request to pay tribute to his 50+ years of rock and blues leadership and excellence among performers in Mexico because he and his wife Susanna operate a small shelter from their home in Mexico City and know the problem first hand. Funds raised will be directed to an expansion of the Reynoso’s small animal rescue shelter plus other projects operated by existing shelters and veterinarians in Mexico City that support medical treatment, neutering, feeding and shelter.

Appearing will be Mexico City native, the award-winning soul-blues vocalist, saxophonist Evelyn Rubio, Steffie Beltt, one of Mexico’s finest voices, and guest of honor, Mexico City’s harp master Isidoro Negrete Reynoso. They’ll be joined by over 20 of Mexico’s best rock and blues performers from Mexico City and the region. Doors open at 3pm and the all-day music and fun will culminate with an allstar jam at 10pm.

This fest will be an explosion of love and the Christmas spirit for the animals — an explosion of great live rock and blues from some of Mexico’s best.
Find event tickets here. If you cannot attend you can still show your support. Events are not for profit, and all organizers are volunteers. There will also be prizes for some lucky donors.

East Bay city apologizes for bulldozing blues community
(HAYWARD, CA) - A California city has apologized to Black and Latino residents and descendants of a tight-knit community that was torn down more than half a century ago.

The East Bay Times reports that the apology was welcomed by many from the 12-block area known as Russell City in Hayward, which was a vibrant hub for blues musicians until it was torn down to make way for an industrial hub.

“For me, as an African American woman, it’s really, really meaningful,” said Artavia Berry, a Hayward resident who chairs a city commission that drafted the apology. “It’s been a very tearful week for me.”

The Hayward City Council issued the apology on Nov. 16. It’s among a number of U.S. cities that have been reckoning with past racial injustices, including the nearby city of San Jose.

San Jose apologized in September for its treatment of Chinese residents in the 19th century. The city’s thriving Chinatown was burned to the ground in 1887 by arsonists.

Russell City was named in the mid-19th century for a teacher who came to California during the Gold Rush. Initially, Danish immigrants lived there. By World War II, people had migrated to the community from the southern United States and Mexico.

The unincorporated area near Hayward had 1,400 mostly Black and Latino residents, lacked fresh water and had mostly unpaved roads. But it had a thriving music scene, said Ronnie Stewart, the head of the West Coast Blues Society.

Little G Weevil :: LIVE ACOUSTIC SESSION
"Keep Going"
Website

The pure simplicity of hearing a world class artist alone in a room with their instrument is a rare event not often witnessed by many let alone caught on tape and recorded for posterity. Armed with only his acoustic guitar, a list of favorite songs and his wits, 2013 international Blues challenge Solo champion, Little G Weevil, sat alone in the vaunted stone room at Supersize Recording earlier this year in his native country of Hungary for a spontaneous recording, simply titled Live Acoustic Session.

Weevil described the day; “My latest and most spontaneous work to date. I walked into a studio, had three beers, and played 16 tunes. It came out mighty bluesy, 100% live, no editing.” Obviously inspired by the sound of the room with its handcrafted fieldstone walls, high ceiling and wood floors, Weevil delivered a performance of Blues and roots and rambles with fire and zeal, as if he were playing on the stage in a grand auditorium.

Little G Weevil is an artist who refuses to be pigeonholed, with a career full of varied material and colorful, unique cross genre collaborations. This strong release demonstrate he is not afraid to go back to basics and revel in his roots.
During his travels he shared the stage with legendary musicians such as Johnny Winter, the Neville Brothers, Terry Evans, John Popper, Lee Oskar, Anson Funderburgh and the Rockets with Sam Myers, Denise Lasalle, Otis Taylor, Big Jack Johnson, Lonnie Shields, Lurrie Bell, Willie King, Ian Siegal and many more.

Live Acoustic Session was nominated for a 2021 Blues Blast Music Award for "Live Blues Album."
