THE 20th ANNUAL BLUES FESTIVAL GUIDE MAGAZINEDIGITAL EDITION IS NOW RELEASED!
Our 20th Anniversary digital edition of the Blues Festival Guide has launched and is now available on our website! Click the image at left to read and enjoy all 84 pages. Don't forget to turn on the speaker to hear Tulle Brae singing "Seven Bridges."

Blues music is America’s original roots music. It is still being picked on the front porches of tar-paper shacks, but just as frequently, it is fired up loud and proud in front of a barroom (or festival) crowd.

Blues reflects hardship, trouble and strife, but also perseverance and strength of character – to know the blues is to be in touch with your true spirit and soul. The Blues Festival Guide is committed to the process of presenting blues to a wider audience, and as you know, offers our weekly, electronic newsletter: Blues Festival E-Guide (free subscription) and the popular annual national print (and digital) magazine which comes out each spring.

Blues legend Bobby Rush calls our magazine: "The roadmap to everything blues". Indeed, the articles offer something for everyone, all blues related, of course. This year’s engaging editorial from aficionados in the blues community includes articles from Grammy winner Victor Wainwright, Mitch Woods, Reverend Billy C. Wirtz and Roger Stolle among others.

Our cover by photographer Marilyn Stringer features the talented Tullie Brae and Calvin Johnson at the 2021 North Atlantic Blues Festival!

Get your tickets for the 24th Annual Prairie Dog Blues Festival
(PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, WI) - Get your tickets for the 24th Annual Prairie Dog Blues Festival, happening in Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin July 28-30. The Prairie Dog is one of the most laid-back blues festivals out there! It is held every year on historic St. Feriole Island in a beautiful city park, right on the Mississippi River and nestled between jagged cliffs and green hills untouched by the Ice Age! Once you get that cold drink in your hand, great tunes in your ear and good, friendly people all around, you'll realize you're at one of the most beautiful venues anywhere and will soon be calling yourself a Prairie Dogger!

This year's festival features: The Ghost Town Blues Band, Katie Henry, Jimmy Nick & Don't Tell Mama, Joanna Connor, The Steepwater Band, Left Wing Bourbon, Dirty Red & The Soul Shakers, Mama's Worry, Avey Grouws, Eddie Turner, Veronica Lewis, Gabe Stillman, and Caleb Johnson (Winner of American Idol).

Tickets and camping are available here. Information on accommodations can be found here or by calling 800-732-1673. Like their Facebook page and watch to win free tickets to the Fest!

Camp on site and walk to the gate of the festival only 200-300 yards. Food and drink, campfires, singing, playing music and telling stories is strongly encouraged. A 1-block walk off The Island and you’re downtown surrounded by family-owned pubs, restaurants and small retail stores. Most pubs this year will have bands as well. If a motel is more your style, blues fest shuttles will get you to the fest in 5-minutes or less!

New for 2022 is a free Thursday night Kick-Off Party! The party starts at 5pm hosted by The Ghost Town Blues Band. Music 6:30-10:30pm on the tent stage. Camp free Thursday night although no carry-ins of food or drink. Food and non-food vendors will be set-up by 5pm.
11th Sean Carney's “Blues For A Cure” this Friday in Ohio
(CADIZ, OH) - 11th Annual Sean Carney's “Blues For A Cure” will be held Friday (6pm start) June 24 and Saturday (4pm start) June 25, 2022, at Sally Buffalo Park in Cadiz, Ohio. Proceeds benefit WVU Harrison Community Hospital Foundation and the Harrison County Cancer Crusaders. Three International Blues Challenge (IBC) Guitar Champions will be featured at this year’s concert -- Stacy Mitchhart, Noah Wotherspoon, and Sean Carney. Local talent Roger Hoard, with the Hoard & Jones Band, will also take the stage.

Blues Cure Volume 13, the event's latest CD, will release at the event and be on sale for $15. There will be an auction with some high-profile items available for bid like a Ben Roethlisberger signed full-sized Steelers helmet and a Dolly Parton acoustic guitar signed by Dolly, plus more fun things to bid on.

It’s BYOB and food, water and soda will be available for purchase. “Blues For A Cure” is no charge and is open to the public.

The idea behind “Blues For A Cure” was born during a phone call with Sean Carney’s friend, Dr. Paul McCarthy, owner of Honeybee Records. They discussed the notion that Blues music can effect positive change in the world. Then then discussed how to support that notion by raising money for a charity, paying the artists a reasonable wage, and presenting an awesome showcase of live Blues worthy of festival designation. At the time, Sean’s mother was undergoing chemotherapy for Hodgkin's Lymphoma. His younger sister and stepmother are cancer survivors and his piano player, John Popovich, is in remission. The charity was clear.

Since inception, this annual charity concert event has raised nearly $250,000 for the local area. “Blues For A Cure,” has raised over $400,000 since Sean Carney started the fund in 2007.

Berks Arts: 5th Annual Reading Blues Fest planned for Nov 17-20
(READING, PA) - Reading Blues Fest, the annual celebration of traditional blues and its contemporary subgenres, will take place at the DoubleTree Hotel by Hilton Reading [Pennsylvania] from Friday, Nov 18 through Sunday, Nov 20. Arts Advocate ticket sales and general public sales have started, for both package and single performances.

This year, Reading Blues Fest has added a special Community Kickoff Concert on Thursday, Nov. 17, at the Reading Liederkranz, starting at 6 p.m. at the club on Mount Penn overlooking Reading. Performing will be Clarence Spady & The Electric City Band featuring The Berks Horns, and Busker Incognito Trio hosting Crossroads Blues Jam before Spady takes the stage.

Presented by Berks Arts, which also presents the renowned Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest each spring, Reading Blues Fest provides a chance for fans to relax in the friendly atmosphere of the award-winning DoubleTree while enjoying concerts, blues-themed lunches and brunches and a Conversation with the Artists, hosted by Michael Cloeren, the founder and producer of the Pocono/ Pennsylvania Blues Festivals.

Headliners for this year’s festival include Tab Benoit with The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Sugaray Rayford with Vanessa Collier, Eric Gales with Dawn Tyler Watson, The Blood Brothers: Mike Zito and Albert Castiglia, BC Blue, The Dave Mell Blues Band, Vaneese Thomas, Dave Keyes, and Dave Keller Trio.

“The Reading Blues Fest certainly experienced some challenges with the COVID pandemic arriving just as the festival was gaining momentum,” Justin Heimbecker, Berks Arts executive director, said. “However, now that we are getting back to a typical festival cycle, fans have made it clear that they are eager to return to live events. We can’t wait to bring thousands of visitors to downtown Reading for the benefit and enjoyment of the entire community.”

Just in case: "National Camera Day" is June 29, a day to celebrate the fact that photography, once so complicated it took a scientist to understand, is now part of our everyday lives. Think of all the amazing memories made with photos. Not only with family but with friends doing cool things (maybe a Blues festival?) and the photos of Blues-roots artists of past that we actually know what they looked like as they were making music history. The simple captures to the almost unbelievable photo art, photos past and present are an indelible part of our lives and move our minds and hearts and some can take us places we never imagined.
