Here's singer, producer, piano madman, Grammy nominated, multi-award-winning entertainer Victor Wainwright at Blues From The Top in Winter Park, Colorado June 25!

Wainwright is a "raucous high-octane, dynamic performer and crowd pleaser with soul to spare." He serves up boogie, barrelhouse, blues, New Orleans' flavors and much more. Yes, a force to be reckoned with and a super happy on at that!

Celebrating Blues Veterans at the Delta Blues Museum
(CLARKSDALE, MS) - The Delta Blues Museum is again a proud participant of the Blue Star Museum Program benefitting active-duty military personnel and their families and are offering free admission to them now through Labor Day. "We are pleased to partner with the National Endowment for the Arts to honor the men and women who are serving our country," Museum Director Shelley Ritter says. "Museum reservations can be made online, and walk-ups are also welcome."

Several Delta blues artists served in the U.S. military, among them Howlin' Wolf, Elmore James, B.B. King, Bukka White, John Bray, John Lee Hooker, and Josh “Razorblade” Stewart. Hear their recordings on Delta Blues, a two-CD set produced exclusively for the Delta Blues Museum.

Take a virtual field trip/video tour drawn from the Museum’s exhibits and the Explore & Learn educational feature, The Blues & The Great Migration, to follow paths taken out of the Delta by blues artists. See historic photos of the Delta sites that birthed the blues in Panny Mayfield’s Live from the Delta. Backroads Blues Festival kicks off in August
Blues rock artist and five-time GRAMMY® nominee Kenny Wayne Shepherd will kick off the inaugural run of his Backroads Blues Festival in August which he serves as both curator and featured performer. He'll be joined by blues legend Buddy Guy and young blues phenom and recent GRAMMY® winner Christone "Kingfish" Ingram. The festival will be held Aug 13 at Bold Point Park, Providence, Rhode Island; Aug 14 at Bethel Woods, the site of the original Woodstock in Bethel, New York; Aug 16 at the Artpark Amphitheater in Lewiston, New York; Aug 18 at Springfield Symphony Hall in Springfield Massachusetts; and Aug 21 at the Atlantic Union Bank Pavilion in Portsmouth, Virginia.

“These days nobody mounts a traditional touring blues festival," says Shepherd when sharing his vision for the Backroads Blues Festival. "I conceptualized one that will give people a chance to see the best of the best all in one place. We are extremely excited that Buddy Guy will be with us for each show. He is, after all, the living king of the blues these days. Also worthy of great respect is Christone "Kingfish" Ingram who is revitalizing the blues in a potent and powerful way."

Shepherd says the overall concept for Backroads Blues Festival is an extension of his award winning earlier 10 Days Out: Blues from the Backroads film and album project that saw him bring his band and a portable studio on the road to join forces with both notable and unheralded blues artists documenting those collaborations along the way including Etta Baker, Pinetop Perkins, Honeyboy Edwards, Lazy Lester, Willie “Big Eyes” Smith, Hubert Sumlin and B.B. King, among others.

“In the past, I really looked forward to those blues packages both as a fan and as an artist, so I decided to bring the concept back with the Backroads Blues Festival tour.”

 Delbert McClinton :: OUTDATED EMOTION
Four-time Grammy® Award winner Delbert McClinton celebrates his coming-of-age musical heroes and influences with his 27th studio album, Outdated Emotion (Hot Shot Records/Thirty Tigers). The 19-track collection features Hank Williams, Jimmy Reed, Ray Charles, and Little Richard standards, as well as five original songs written or cowritten by McClinton.

Delbert had spent much of the COVID isolation in Kevin McKendree’s Rock House Studio in Nashville. This new album brings his music back to where it started. Outdated Emotion pays homage to McClinton’s earliest influences, Hank Williams and Jimmy Reed with a salute to Ray Charles and Little Richard, as well as five of his own compositions, influenced by the sounds of his heroes.

Along with Kevin and his son, musical prodigy Yates McKendree, Delbert has created the album he has often dreamed of.

“I’ve always wanted to do an album of the songs that influenced me the most. Hank Williams songs, Jimmy Reed songs, and songs that I love. And this was the perfect time to do it. It’s important music from another time. It’s music that people need to hear again, or for the first time… There is a whole generation, maybe two generations now, who don’t know this music. My whole idea here was to show them how it was and how we got here. Hank Williams, Jimmy Reed, Lloyd Price, Ray Charles….”

Delbert remembers where he was when he heard his first Hank Williams song. And he knew he wanted to play music for a living when he first heard Jimmy Reed.

Delbert had succeeded in creating his own genre, a melting pot of American music. Outdated Emotion brings Delbert McClinton full circle to the songs that started it all.

20th Annual Blues Festival Guide Magazine Digital Edition Released on our website
You can not only get a hard copy of the magazine via select festivals, blues societies or by ordering, but our 20th Anniversary digital edition of the Blues Festival Guide has been launched and is available on our website! Click the image at left to read and enjoy all 84 pages. Don't forget to turn on the speaker to hear Tulle Brae singing "Seven Bridges."

Blues music is America’s original roots music. It is still being picked on the front porches of tar-paper shacks, but just as frequently, it is fired up loud and proud in front of a barroom (or festival) crowd.

Blues reflects hardship, trouble and strife, but also perseverance and strength of character – to know the blues is to be in touch with your true spirit and soul. The Blues Festival Guide is committed to the process of presenting blues to a wider audience, and as you know, offers our weekly, electronic newsletter: Blues Festival E-Guide (free subscription) and the popular annual national print (and digital) magazine which comes out each spring.

Blues legend Bobby Rush calls our magazine: "The roadmap to everything blues". Indeed, the articles offer something for everyone, all blues related, of course. This year’s engaging editorial from aficionados in the blues community includes articles from Grammy winner Victor Wainwright, Mitch Woods, Reverend Billy C. Wirtz and Roger Stolle among others.

Our cover by photographer Marilyn Stringer features the talented Tullie Brae and Calvin Johnson at the 2021 North Atlantic Blues Festival!

You can also order your own hard copy here!

Just in case: July 11 is "Cheer Up the Lonely Day." How could yomake a lonely person happy? Well, a phone call, a card, a visit in person would be great... and what about music? I bet if you ask yourself what artists or even what song you could share to engage someone you might end up with a lot of great choices. We know music is a profound healer and stirs the soul, and sharing in general is a gift. Share yourself and your music whether just a song or a full on performance.

July 13, 2022, a “Super Buck Moon” (according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac) will occur. It will also be a "Supermoon," the biggest full moon of the year because it will be closer to Earth than in any other month. The July full moon is also known as the "Thunder Moon" because thunderstorms are so prevalent during the month of July.
