Alki UCC Weekly Messenger January 12, 2023
From the Pastor
Dear Alki UCC,

Over the next few weeks we will be asking the question: “What does it mean to be part of a church?”

We’ll explore the idea of being “All In.”
Whether you recently began attending Alki UCC, or have served for decades on every committee, this is a chance to step back and say: "Why do we do this, anyway? What is the church and why do we show up?"

This sermon series will culminate on the final Sunday of the month with a reception of new members and renewal of baptism.

January 15
All In: Come and See
John 1:29-42 tells of Jesus beckoning the disciples to join him in his ministry. We are called to join in collective liberation.

January 22
All In: Follow Me
Matthew 4:12-23 is another story of Jesus calling the disciples, saying to those who had cast aside their fishing nets: “I will make you fish for people.” We are called to grow in faith and follow Jesus.

January 29 New Member Sunday
All In: Do justice, Love Kindness, Walk Humbly
Micah 6:1-8 exhorts us to embody what we believe. We are called to put our faith in action.

The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. prayed: "Ever present God, you called us to be in relationship with one another and promised to dwell wherever two or three are gathered . . . Open our hearts that we may be bold in finding the riches of inclusion and the treasures of diversity among us."

This upcoming series is for everyone! No matter who you are or where you are on your spiritual journey, there is a place for you at Alki UCC. Let’s be All In together!

In hope,
Pastor Emily

Peruvian Families Seeking Asylum Status
Please continue to hold our Peruvian asylum-seekers in your prayers.

Our families have very compelling reasons for seeking asylum. Important hearings are coming very soon and will begin to determine whether or not they will be granted asylum and permitted to stay in the US.

Having an attorney to represent an asylum applicant is crucial and legal representation has yet to be established. If a pro-bono attorney cannot be secured, we will be fundraising to pay for one.

Mission to De-Clutter
Major Cleanup Scheduled for End of January
Yoicks!!! During the building closure over the last two years, piles of "stuff" (to use the technical term) grew to critical mass on the Anderson Hall stage (see picture at right) and other areas.

We'll be doing donation/dump runs to clear the clutter at the end of the month, so please speak up asap if you know of specific items that need to find another home in the building.

The Lost and Found Bin, in the corner by the pew opposite the church office, also needs a major re-fresh, so please take a look before it's cleared out as well.
