Australian officials find missing radioactive capsule
aussie
Australian authorities have found a radioactive capsule, which measures 6mm in diameter and 8mm in length, that fell off a truck along an 870-mile stretch of highway in the Outback, Emergency Services Minister Stephen Dawson announced Wednesday. The capsule, part of a gauge used to measure the density of iron ore feed from Rio Tinto's Gudai-Darri mine, came loose and fell onto the road two weeks ago while being transported to a facility in the suburbs of Perth. "The search groups have quite literally found the needle in the haystack," Dawson said. The capsule emits radiation as strong as 10 X-rays per hour, and officials had
warned people to stay more than 16 feet away if they spotted it.                            The Week

The War Dog cemetery in Michigan is a resting place for service dogs. Each year at Christmas there is a ceremonial wreath laying that is a stirring and fitting memorial to all the dogs who devoted their lives to the service of the people of Michigan.

As part of the service last December the speaker mentioned that other war dog cemeteries are being formed in other states. He went on to say that the organizers often looked for abandoned pet cemeteries and developed the service dogs memorials on the same plot of land without disturbing the older burial sites. Such is the case with our site. To see more pictures and copy about our cemetery see the March 2022 Newsletter.

Just a bad week all around for a Florida man and woman were arrested after they called 911 to get help moving the contents of a home they’d broken into. Responding deputies from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office found the pair inside a home they’d entered through an unlocked door and recognized the man as the suspect in the burglary of a Dollar General store earlier that day. The woman explained that she’d called 911 hoping cops might help them move some large items from the house and give them a ride to the airport, so they could visit New York City for the weekend. The sheriff’s office said that deputies “Did give them a ride” but “to the Polk Pokey.”

The Bannermans have an interesting story. Scotsman, Francis Bannerman started the company with the unique idea of selling ex-Civil War gear as "surplus goods" to civilians. He made a fortune as chronicled in his famous catalogs. Just after the turn of the 20th century the city fathers of New York learned he a hundred tons of explosives lodged at his store on Broadway. They invited him to move it all right away. Thence came into play Bannerman Island on the Hudson River near West Point. It was styled after a Scottish castle and with its wharves made by dumping old cannons into the river made a perfect arsenal for the company soon to become one of the largest arms dealers in the world. The catalogs grew until the pinnacle of 1927. Subsequent editions pulled heavily on the landmark '27.

Heckler & Koch 1975 HK91 Manual
(Dear Abby) I think I would take the picture off of your listing. This is false advertising. The manual looks nothing like the original. Most gun collectors as myself . Would be very disappointed at your manual. It’s is nothing like the original as you show on your add. If I were you I would take a picture of your own and advertise. Not the original. Very disappointed . (lickitgd2 snatch - Johnny)

Johnny, False Advertising? If the advertisement didn't look like the version of the manual you wanted, why did you buy it? You do realize gun-makers often make several different copies of their manuals using different covers, don't you. Well, buster, the image of the HK91 manual is an identical picture of the original we used to make it. It is not, however printed on the same paper or with the original inks.  We reprint over 6000 old catalogs, manuals and books and it would obviously be impossible to make perfect forgeries of each original, some over 150 years old. Oh yes, we've sold over 100 of these with not even a whimper of complaint until you, maybe you have a very rare original cover! Abbyhk ad

I’m saying take that picture down and take a picture of yours so people know EXACLY what they are getting. They are expecting it is like original manual and it is not. It may be a copy of the original. But it looks nothing like it. To a gun collector it means a lot. I would have spent the 80.00 and got a real one.  (Johnny)

senileJohnny, I don't understand what you are looking for. The image in our advert is the identical image we use to print the copies we send out. What would be the point of photographing a photograph? What is your real complaint? Is the color different, what is on your mind, your complaint makes no sense to me?
Well, you are one of a kind! We've sold our reprints for 21 years now- somewhere over a three fourths million individual reprints of over 6000 originals to over 65,000 customers all over the world and nobody has suggested what you did. I guess all the other people read the "About Us" column at our website.hk Oh yes, thanks for the “F” at the Gunbroker website, we don't get many of those. And no, we print to order and the last thing I need it 6000 copies of our reprints cluttering up our office so I can photograph the photo used to make the cover. Abby

You have a picture of the original manual. It’s the right manual. But you should take a picture of your manual . Not the original .

This chap uses the unfortunate “username” of “lickitgd2 snatch”, and is doggedly trying to prove something. The last we heard from him was at 7:14 AM on the second of February. We didn’t answer and he didn’t leave a message, thank goodness. The two images here show the ad (with the inside pages behind the cover cropped a little) and the printed copy. I guess I have to confess I lightened the print copy slightly, mea culpa. You can't see it in the image, but we always leave a white border around our reprints. This is an agreement we've made with most manufacturers to distinguish our reprints from an original. I know, it is overkill, but it keeps the lawyers happy. Abby

Alcan Ammunition 1961 - Alton, IL - hello, I'm looking for load data for alcan powder does this have anyalcan loading data in it cadillac_catfish_crusader (eBay)

I just looked, and the Alcan 1967 issue we reprint has more shotshell information as well as loading for hand guns. Rob for cornellpubs

Ok thank you, The copy I got had very faint printing of the load data, so, my question is can you reprint the pages with the actual load data on them and mail them to me?

Hi Stephen, You are absolutely correct, but I can fix it. I'll reprocess both catalogs and send them to you in the next day or so. I do apologize for my error. I don't know what happened. Cheers, Rob for cornellpubs

lymanLyman 1957 Ammunition Reloading Handbook- 41st ed. - Does this have loading data for 35 Winchester self loading or 351 WSL? td41 (eBay)

It has the .35 win. I don't know if it is self-loading or not, doesn't specify. Ebay won't let me drop an image of the cartridge in this message. Abby for cornellpubs

35 Winchester is a bottleneck cartridge, pretty long case…35 win self loading is more like a 357 magnum short and straight td41

This one is a bottleneck. Perhaps it is in a later Speer or Lyman. We reprint dozens of them and they are available as PDFs at our website. Rob for cornellpubs

Ok, can I download PDF when I buy them ? td41

You can from our website, cheaper too, but not from ebay. Rob for cornellpubs

Thank you…I bought one last night..

Good morning, We tracked our package and it says it was delivered to a PO Box in Brighton, MI 48116. I don't know if we received the incorrect tracking number or the wrong address was put in for our order. I didn't know if you would be able to help so that we receive our package. Thank you, Dakota

Dakota, We went to our PO box and sure enough, your package was there with a bright yellow label returning it to us. Please confirm your address. Abby

Dakota, Hmmm, thanks, the address is correct, I don’t know what went wrong. I took the package to the PO and they told me "the yellow label that sent it back to you must have got attached to the package and that is why". So it seems the PO screwed up and an errant label caused the problem. The postal lady kept the package, removed the yellow label, and said it would be fine. Sorry for the lateness, Abby for cornellpubs

Speer 1959 Reloading Manual No. 3 for Commercial Cartridges - $15.00 if you include the shipping with it.speer I'm on fixed income you know.. johnjr4570 (eBay)

John Jr., I am really sorry, but at $15 we would actually lose money. Shipping, packing, printing, paper and ink, binding and ebay commissions and listing fees cost more than $15. We try to keep our prices as low as we can afford to because this is a hobby in our retirement and doesn't provide much of an income. Rob for cornellpubs

Ok what about 20.00 with free shipping. John johnjr4570

John, You are just a little under break-even for us at $20. I'm really sorry, but the price is $25.63 with shipping. If you really want to save money, our website sells PFD (electronic) versions for $10.42. Hope that helps. Sorry, Rob for cornellpubs

We don't ship outside the U.S. If you do live in the U.S. and still had trouble ordering, please tell me what you would like to purchase, give me your name and address for shipment and I'll send you an invoice to pay. I hope this helps, Cheers, Rob

feinHi Abby or Rob, I'm one of your Newsletter subscribers and I have a question regarding a particular 'reprint'. I have recently acquired a Feinwerkbau model 65 air pistol. I am interested in the reprinted (not pdf) version of that pistols owners/instruction manual. I see that you have an early edition entitled: Feinwerkbau Modell 65 80 Air Pistol Manual. The question I have is in what fashion are the pages bound ? The picture you have as an illustration on your website catalog shows a Cover page (color) and a separate page I assume is from the interior of the pistol's cut-out mechanical. Once I have received your reply I would like to go ahead and place an order with you for the reprinted manual. Thank you. Richard.

Richard, I just noticed your email is from Canada. We don't ship to Canada because you folks want us tofly collect your import duty and taxes (most countries have picked up on that imposition) and we just can't do that. There are only two of us and the bookkeeping would be too much. If you get the pdf you can take it to and office store and they can print it on legal size paper, fold it and staple for you. Sorry, Abby

Hi Abby, Thanks for your reply. Didn’t think that something that would go ‘Letter mail’ like a small thin booklet would be of concerned with having duty or taxes imposed. Maybe a hard or soft bound printed book probably.  I’ve received many times from the US Sellers on ebay that offer ‘original’ full page commercial ads from magazines such as Daisy airguns or Crosman pistols that were so popular in the ‘50s and ‘60s. Never any problems with shipping to Canada. Nonetheless you have offered the alternative to get a .pdf and see to having it reproduced. I’ll have to first find someone to do that. Richard

Hi Richard, Big companies collect the taxes and private individuals don't have to collect. Our shipping program will not ship, however, without the proper credentials so we don't ship to Canada. Ebay offers international shipping and takes care of all the duty etc. Many of our publications are on ebay and ship to Canada... for a whole lot of money! Everything else we sell and ship is subject to the laws of Canada. We would greatly appreciate you writing a letter to the authorities requesting that we, as a small publisher, be exempted from their law! If enough people do that, well, maybe... Best, Abby

Hi Abby, I received your subsequent message regarding going through eBay to order.  The handling and shipping cost are definitely expensive. Per your suggestion, I’ll be placing an order for the .pdf version which is adequately sufficient for my personal need. Thank you for your kind assistance and attention to my request. Richard

nicholsNichols Stallion .45 Cap Gun Manual - Hi...received the item and I'm very happy to have it. All good. Gave you a great review. Just on a side note...I still would have bought it, but was a little surprised the it was not mentioned that there was that white spot on the underside of the barrel that shows up quite well. I can and did see it in the listed picture, but was assuming it was the photo. That's all. Thanks again! parcobra111

Remington Model 581-582 - Owner's Manual - Is this manual for the pre-1982 model or the Post 1982 remmodel? I understand there’s a difference thank you. angels1stnoelle (eBay)

Hello angels- To be honest, I don't know. The manual is not dated so I don't have a yardstick. Unfortunately, the pdfs at our website don't include this manual so that isn't an option. Sorry, I don't think we can help you. Cheers, Rob for cornellpubs

heston Howdy folks ~ I purchased my first firearm (Model 60A Winchester) when I was almost 13. Mowed alot of lawns that summer to pay the $24.00 something price on a second hand Winchester. Still have it. When I saw the Assembly Operations editions covering this rifle I had to order it. I couldn't imagine that it would be more than a few pages ~ for a bolt action, 5 shot .22 caliber repeater! Boy was I surprised!  I realize the manual covers 3 different rifles but two of them are almost identical. Anyway, I am enjoying the reading ! and once again you folks have come through. Thank you .. .. .. Ralph

Thanks for your note Ralph, we appreciate hearing from you, brings value to what we do. My first purchased rifle was a used Mossberg I bought after cutting a lot of grass at $2 a lawn (2 hours each with a push gas mower). I traded an old family hand-me-down Remington .22 rolling block (I wish I had it now) in part payment. Eventually, I bought a Sears mower and after a lot more lawns bought a Mossberg target rifle for my gun club. We used to take guns to school on the bus and keep them in in our lockers. Ah well, times have changed a bit! Cheers, Rob

le damasHello, Purchased (le damas) from you didn't read the entire description - didn't realize it was in French. Do you offer this publication in English. Thanks, Darryl

Hi Darryl, No, I'm sorry it is in French and that is the only copy we have. Do you want me to cancel the order? Best, Abby

Thanks I will keep it.  - I will try and find a program to convert it to English.

Hi Darryl, I would do this myself but, honestly, we've sold only one or two of these in 20 Years. So I did this for you, I made a pdf with OCR test recognition set to French. All you have to do is highlight sections of the text and put it in the Google translator set to French to English. Please let me know if you have any trouble and I'll try to help. Cheers, Rob

Hi - I want to buy several catalogues but Im in Australia and it says there are no shipping options? Can theybra warbe combined and sent here or do I need to get them sent to a friend in Chicago to on send to me? Thanks Ian

Hi Ian, We are not shipping abroad because most countries, Australia included, want us to collect their import duty and taxes, something we just can't do. So, you can either:

Buy at Amazon where you pay extortionate shipping for each item.
    Ship to your friend.
Buy our PDFs and have them printed locally.

Sorry I'm not more helpful, Best, Abby

Hi you mentioned you'd check to see if what I'm looking for might be in this book. Specifically I'm looking for information on the Iver Johnson Special Trap Single Barrel Shotgun. I've bought a catalog from you that contained sales information. Just wondering if this book might have additional data on this model. Serial numbers, dates of manufacture, etc. I know that all Special Trap and Super Trap model serial numbers started with a prefix letter T. Thanks, Russ

Hi Russ, What you are looking for is really too specific to be in the Breechloading Shotguns 1860 -1940 Set of all 3 Volumes – Vorisek. He has the Champion singles, old and new but not any of the more exotic models and for the Champions only ranges and years. The series is really for people who collect a range of guns and want a broad view of makers, history and some facts about general models. They should not be bought ijto drill down on one specific gun. Cheers, Rob for cornellpubs

Thank you so much. This is the reason I have bought many items from you over the years. I appreciate your honesty! You aces in my book. Russ.

Hi Russ, I see I failed to tell you to look at Joe Vorisek's Iver Johnson Arms & Cycle Works, A Short Illustrated History of. He is the same fellow who did the much larger Breechloader books. I believe it is on ebay but if not it is available at our website in paper or pdf versions. And, of course, we also print 35 old IJ catalogs with indexes of contents for each one. Hope this helps, Cheers, Rob

I have hundreds of all original books like these. All original and everything you can imagine. If you're interested let me know. emteck (eBay)

Hello emteck, Thank you for thinking of us. Are you offering to sell your collection or donate it to our 20 year loseold project to digitally preserve old firearms books, catalogs and manuals? Cheers, Rob for cornellpubs

I'd be willing to sell them all to you. I have browning ones as well. Let me know.

I'm sorry, we have two problems, I have most of the ones I see in your images, and a ton of Brownings, but worse for you, I don't pay for catalogs unless they are very rare which generally means before 1940. We've been given several huge collections we have barely begun to crack. Try selling on ebay, it is a pain but at fixed price they don't charge listing fees and you could bundle different ones. Check shipping prices before you start, they just went up and there are no regional Priority boxes anymore. Good luck, Rob

I have all of the Rifle and Handloader  from #1 to present along with many years of other gun mags, as Guns, guns & ammo ,shooting times ect.  Are these of any value to you?   Thanks Jim

Hi Jim, No, I'm sorry, we are sticking to catalogs and manuals for the time being. Sadly, there is little interest in old magazines, even if they are interesting to us, so I am going to pass on your generous offer. You know, the other problem is shipping, it has become so expensive we have to be really careful when we acquire bulk lots. Of course, everything is more expensive! Cheers, Rob

Good morning Abby, I just received your excellently reproduced copy of the old Navy Arms catalog.  Does the original that you used to make this reproduced catalog have a date on it.  If it doesn’t, have you an idea to when it dates? Dave

Hi Dave, If we are unsure if a date we put the letter "c" for circa before the date in the advert. This one is 1972 as you can see from the date on the lower left corner of the first page. This is the page for the item at our website (we use the same ad for other sites):Cheers, Abby
