Photo Moments with the 21st Annual BFG Magazine!
Our BFG reps at the Blues Music Awards in Memphis recently caught up with multi-award winning Bruce Iglauer, record producer, head honcho-founder-CEO of famed Alligator Records.

Iglauer actually started this blues journey as a clerk for Chicago's Delmark Records in 1970 and was also a co-founder of Living Blues magazine. In 1971, after Delmark declined his advice to record Hound Dog Taylor & The House Rockers, Iglauer recorded the group himself with his own savings, and needing a label, Alligator Records was born.

Pat McDougall :: IN THE KEY OF SORRY
In The Key Of Sorry is a collection of 12 songs co-produced by Pat McDougall and Jimi Bott at Roseleaf Recording. All songs were written and lead vocals sung by Pat; two were co-written with others. This eclectic collection has something for everyone: uptempo blues, melancholy soul ballads, swampy slide guitar blues, ironically humorous romps, even a pop-rock anthem.

“It’s a huge thrill to bring my songs to a wider audience through this recording,” Pat says. “I’m infinitely grateful to the musicians who brought their talents to the project, and to my brilliantly creative and unfailingly wise co-producer, Jimi Bott.”

Performers on In The Key Of Sorry include Pat McDougall's bandmates in Tall Static – Ed Pierce, Whit Draper and Jim Solberg – plus special guest appearances as follows: “In The Key Of Sorry” – Kid Andersen; “Don’t Ask A Boy (To Do A Man’s Job)” — Alan Hager; “Hot Soup And Ice Cream” – Kara Grainger; “How You Gonna” – Lisa Mann; “Always Wanted To” – Doug Rowell; “Love Won’t Let Me Down” – Lloyd Jones; “Actions Speak Louder Than Words” – Ben Rice; “Holding Back The Tears” – Kivett Bednar, Jerry Jemmott; “Which Way The Cold Wind Blows” – Kevin Selfe, Jimi Bott, Lisa Mann; “Well-Acquainted With The Blues” – Whit Draper (co-written with Grammy-winning keyboardist Peter Boe of the Robert Cray and Curtis Salgado bands); “I’m That Guy” – Ben Rice.

Pat McDougall has performed with a long list of artists, and currently plays regularly with his own blues/R&B outfit Tall Static and Ben Rice & The Hustle. Until late 2020, Pat was the keyboardist and musical director for the Rae Gordon Band, helping create their acclaimed and award-winning CDs Better Than I Was and Wrong Kind Of Love, including writing and co-writing 18 of the songs.

Birthdays & Just In Case
Just In Case... plus Holidays & Birthdays
• May 29 Memorial Day (USA)
All gave some, some gave all.
While we gather with family and friends, remember, it's not just a day for a BBQ.

Birthdays upcoming of note:
May 25-Miles Davis (1926); May 26-Mamie Smith (1883–1946), Levon Helm (1940-2012); May 27-Junior Parker (1932-1971); May 28 T-Bone Walker (1910-1975 pictured), Gladys Knight (1944), Kaati (BFG Owner/Publisher), Papa John Creech (1917-1989); John Fogarty (1945); May 29-Ron Levy (1951); Jun 1 Ronnie Wood (1947); Jun 3-Jimmy Rogers (1924-1997), Memphis Minnie (1897-1973), Curtis Mayfield (1942-1999), Heather Penrod-Rudd (BFG Sales Rep & Distribution Mgr); Jun 4-Tinsley Ellis (1957); Jun 8-James Harman (1946-2021), Derek Trucks (1979); Jun 9-Jackie Wilson (1934–1984); Jun 10-Howlin' Wolf aka Chester Arthur Burnett (1910-1976)

Just in Case: May 25 is "National Wine Day" Right, like we need an excuse! (actually I'm not a big wine drinker at all, but I have heard that retort before). Sticks Magee laid it all out, "drinkin' wine spo-dee-o-dee, drinkin' wine, pass that bottle to me."

May 31 is "National Smile Day"... could be you're still celebrating "National Wine Day?"
But seriously folks, no one needs an excuse to smile. It's a contagious and most times, spontaneous thing to do. Relax, turn it on and watch what happens. People step out of their deep thought, empty space, or funk and smile back. It's good medicine and they will thank you with a smile. Ok, we do like the funk, but the groovy kind. That'll make you smile, too! ...See he's smiling.
