Photo Moments with the 21st Annual BFG Magazine!
Here's the one and only Christoffer Lund Andersen aka Kid Andersen, who is not only a multi-award winning, multi-talented, guitarist, writer, producer but also, yep, literally and figuratively a big kid. He had just finished wrapping a set with Rick Estrin & The Nightcats of which he is an integral part of, and was kicking it backstage at Gator By The Bay in San Diego, California over Mother's Day weekend. The creative Andersen is also the owner/producer et al of his highly respected Greaseland Studios, or as Kid likes to call it a "Music Creation House."

A native of Norway, he came to the US West Coast at age 21 and the Blues world was soon smitten with his guitar prowess and affable personality. After successful stints with Terry Hanck and Charlie Musselwhite, Kid took Little Charlie Baty's place in the Nightcats when Baty retired from touring, and the new band name was formed.

Shaun Murphy :: I’M COMING HOME
Her Blues music career started in 1969, but she got waylaid into doing the musical Hair on Broadway, where Motown put together Shaun (AKA Stoney) and Meat Loaf to record her first record; Stoney and Meatloaf, charting worldwide! Following Hair, Meat Loaf went on to do The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and Shaun went on to do; Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band On The Road for the better part of the year.

That all led to Shaun joining Bob Seger (from the mid-70s to his retirement in 2019), Eric Clapton, (two world tours, the Behind The Sun release and the incomparable Live Aid show. After 15+ years as lead vocalist with the much-loved band, Little Feat, she ‘came back home’ to the Blues.

With her 2009 start back as a solo artist, she’s released a staggering number of CDs — I’m Coming Home will be her 11th release.

Shaun wrote the title track with Kevin McKendree. She also wrote "Keep Your Head Above Water" with her two bandmates, Tommy Stillwell and Kenne Cramer.  The rest of the songs were penned by close friends in her musical circle.

Shaun is so looking forward seeing all of you out there on that proud highway soon!!

Born In Chicago & Barry Goldberg's Legacy
(CHICAGO, ILLINOIS) - The soulful documentary film, Born In Chicago, tells the story of a small group of tough white teenage musicians who, in the early 1960s, learned to play the blues in the Black clubs on the city's south and west sides. They were treated like sons and encouraged by the original blues masters, including Muddy Waters and Howlin Wolf, who had made their way to Chicago from the Mississippi Delta. These young proteges went on to play a key role in bringing the hard-edged, electrified Chicago blues to rock and roll, in the process reviving the careers of their musical mentors.

The official Chicago Blues Festival screening of Born In Chicago is soldout at the Chicago Cultural Center this weekend, but will be released by Shout! Studios on August 1, 2023, and available on all major digital platforms. The film was written by music historian Joel Selvin and features extraordinary archival footage, and performances, interviews and commentary from Sam Lay, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Hubert Sumlin, Charlie Musselwhite, Barry Goldberg, Corky Seigel and many others. It is narrated by Dan Aykroyd, executive produced by Jim Belushi and Elliot Roberts, and co-directed by Bob Sarles and John Anderson. Original music for the film was composed by Jimmy Vivino and Barry Goldberg.

Goldberg was one of those young teenagers who blazed a trail from Chicago to the Newport Folk Festival to the West coast and around the world playing with some of the most revered bands of the 60s-90s and today.

He was co-founder of the Barry Goldberg - Steve Miller Blues Band, The Barry Goldberg Blues Band, recorded the seminal Two Jews Blues with Michael Bloomfield, founded The Electric Flag, written hits for Rod Stewart and Gladys Knight, backed up Bob Dylan at Newport, worked with Phil Spector and The Ramones, produced a GRAMMY-nominated album for Percy Sledge and scored numerous films and TV shows.

On Friday, June 9th, 9:30 pm (following the Chicago Blues Festival) Reggie's Rock Club (2105 So. State St., Chicago, IL) presents The Chicago Blues Supersession featuring Billy Flynn, Bob Stroger, Kenny “Beedy Eyes” Smith, Dave Katzman, Melvin Smith, Roosevelt Purifoy, Omar Coleman, with special guest Barry Goldberg.
Honorees of "Women in Blues Concert" at Chicago Blues Festival June 10
(CHICAGO, IL) - The City of Chicago will host the 2023 Chicago Blues Festival Thursday, June 8 through Sunday, June 11 at Millennium Park. Highlights include the "Women In Blues Concert" to be held Saturday, June 10th, 2:30-3:45pm at the Chicago Blues Festival at the Pritzker Pavilion.

The City of Chicago will present a proclamation to Honorees Deitra Farr, Katherine Davis and Sugar Pie DeSanto. Lynne Jordan will also host and perform.
Pictured at left are Katherine Davis (photo by Peter Hurley), Sugar Pie DeSanto (Facebook), Dietra Farr (photo by Peter Hurley), and Lynne Jordan. Due to health reasons Sugar Pie will not be in attendance, but her hit song "In The Basement," performed as a duet by Lynne Jordan and Sheryl Youngblood, will fire up this concert. Lynne will also perform Sugar Pie's songs. Katherine Davis' all originals, including the classic "If I Could Go Back," will steal your heart. Joanna Connor will add her own flavor of boogie before the finale, which features Deitra Farr's sassy and soulful penned song, "My Turn, My Time" from her album, Let It Go.
