(DAVENPORT, IA) - The Mississippi Valley Blues Society (MVBS) will once again hold the annual Blues Fest, September 15-16th on the banks of the Mississippi in beautiful and historic LeClaire Park, Davenport, IA. Following a successful 2022 Bluesfest, “We’re staying put in LeClaire Park,” said MVBS President, Kim Whitaker, “This is our home port, and people love the experience of Blues artists performing here as do the artists.”

Blues Fest artist lineup includes:
• Rick Berthod
• Jose Ramirez
• Mr. Sipp
• Ana Popovic
• Chickenbone Slim and The Biscuits featuring Laura Chavez
• Kat Riggins
• John Nemeth and The Blue Dreamers
• Sugaray Rayford
• The Blood Brothers featuring Albert Castiglia and Mike Zito

According to MVBS Festival Production Chair, John Resch “It’s controlled chaos” in staging this event with an all-volunteer organization which is why volunteers are always needed and much appreciated. The two-day event showcases award-winning, national contemporary Blues artists to entertain and educate, which includes the annual BluesSkool event on Saturday.

The Bluesfest, typically draws an audience of over 2,500 Blues and live music fans from around the U.S. and the Midwest and is a major fundraiser for MVBS.

MVBS is one of the longest established non-profit, all volunteer Blues organizations in the U.S., which was founded in 1984 in Davenport, IA. The mission of the Mississippi Valley Blues Society is to ensure the future of a uniquely American art form by fostering greater public appreciation through performance, education, and preservation of the Blues Heritage.
Sunflower Festival Panel at Delta Blues Museum Aug 10
(CLARKSDALE, MS) -  Kicking off Sunflower River Blues & Gospel Festival events in downtown Clarksdale, Mississippi, Delta Blues Museum will host “From Hand to Hand: Passing Down the Blues,” an educational panel featuring three graduates of the Delta Blues Museum Arts & Education Program--Jaxx Nassar, Anthony "Big A" Sherrod and Lee Williams. The classmates learned from Mr. Johnnie Billington, founder of the Museum's after-school program, and were members of "The Deep Cuts," a band fronted by late local bluesman Josh "Razorblade" Stewart. Arts & Education Program graduate Travis Calvin, a current instructor at the Delta Music Institute at Delta State University, will moderate.

The in-person panel is free and open to the public - made possible by the Mississippi Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities - and will also be livestreamed on the Museum's Facebook page. Additionally, a small exhibit of photographer Panny Mayfield's images of the panelists as students will be on display. The panel will be held in the Museum classroom on Thursday, August 10 at 6pm.

For over 30 years, the Museum's award-winning Arts & Education program has taught students to play music that keeps the history of the Delta blues alive. The program has been recognized nationally as a top youth program and has been elevated in recent news because of the high-profile success of one of its graduates, GRAMMY-winning blues musician, Christone "Kingfish" Ingram.

For more information, contact Delta Blues Museum at 662-627-6820 or visit the website. To livestream the event, visit the Museum’s Facebook page.
