Photo Moments with the 21st Annual BFG Magazine!
Here's respected touring and recording guitarist, singer, songwriter Alastair Greene posing with his BFG magazine following his July performance at Bluesdays Tuesdays at Palisades Tahoe.

The Blues-rocker's recent release, Alive In The New World, was produced by Tab Benoit for Benoit's Whiskey Bayou Records. The live album features the power trio of Greene, Corey Duplechin on bass, and multi-instrumentalist Benoit on drums. A multi-charting Top 10 Billboard artist, Greene is not only a firecracker on stage and in the studio, but a really cool, down-to-earth human as well.

Bluesdays is co-sponsored by the Reno Blues Society.

Johnny Rawls :: WALKING HEART ATTACK
Catfood Records announces a September 1 release date for Walking Heart Attack, the new CD from Blues Music Award-winning singer Johnny Rawls. Produced by Johnny Rawls, Walking Heart Attack was recorded at the Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, Texas, and mixed by Grammy-winner Jim Gaines at Bessie Blue Studio in Stantonville, Tennessee. On the new disc, Johnny Rawls (all vocals and guitar on tracks 7 and 8) is backed by his long-standing recording unit, The Rays: Johnny McGhee – guitar; Bob Trenchard – bass; Richy Puga – drums; Dan Ferguson – keyboards; Andy Roman – sax solos; Mike Middleton – trumpet; Nick Flood – baritone/tenor/alto sax; Frank Otero – trombone; with Jon Olazabal – percussion; and backing vocals by Janelle Thompson and Shakara Weston.

The ten tracks on Walking Heart Attack include a number of original songs either written by Johnny Rawls, record label head Bob Trenchard, or co-written by the two, as well as another song, “Heal Me,” penned by Catfood Records labelmate Derrick Procell.

Johnny Rawls is a soul blues legend. With a career spanning more than 50 years, he’s done it all.  He’s an internationally recognized recording artist, music producer, and songwriter who tours extensively throughout North America and overseas. Three of Johnny’s albums on Catfood Records have made the DownBeat Magazine Critics’ Choice Best of the Year List. Waiting For The Train and Tiger In A Cage both stayed at #1 on Roots Music Report Soul Blues chart for several weeks.

The Blues Music Awards, Blues Blast Awards, Living Blues Awards, and the W. C. Handy Awards have all acknowledged Johnny with multiple awards and nominations, including Soul Blues Album of the Year and Soul Blues Artist of the Year. Johnny is honored to be mentioned on two markers along the Mississippi Blues Trail – one in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, marking the Hi-Hat Club, and another in Rocklin, Maine marking the migration of blues from Mississippi to Maine.

Just in case: Just in Case: "World Beard Day" is September 2nd. Beard trends over the years include looks like a lumberjack, biker, and classic, and lately the hipster look that's yep, a throwback to the lumberjack! LOL! Some historians say that a day to honor beards, which were seen as a status symbol, was celebrated by the Danish Vikings as far back as 800 A.D. Well, you know I'm going to dive in and aim to mention a few blues artists that sport beards or did in the past.

Off the top of my head of course I instantly think of ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons. In my past searches I see American Blues Scene did an article on the 10 Best Beards in The Blues a few years back (great minds think alike or eventually catchup). Among those listed are Taj Mahal, Reverend Peyton of the Big Damn Blues Band, Jeff Jenson, and the late Sam Chatmon. Yep, let's go ahead and add Seasick Steve (pictured). These days Tab Benoit seems to be letting his beard flag really fly as opposed to the snug look of say, Sugaray Rayford's beard. Okay, the list is way longer then room here but I always hope to inspire you one way or the other... even if just for fun.
