Thankful our Blues friends!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING from our house to yours!
I think at this time of the year most of us do stop and take some time to reflect on how thankful we really are for what we have in our lives. We can find some peace in even the small moments and remind ourselves to relish in even the tiniest of life's gifts. We are here – we are together in commonality –  we are blues family. And we know the Blues is a healer.

At Thanksgiving time especially, we may reflect more on our immediate family and friends here ...and those gone. The thought of their warmth and familiarity at this holiday time of year can override chaos... (well, okay, that and pie). And we haven't forgotten our sense of humor, either!

I don't hesitate to repeat that I continue to be thankful that I can express myself through my voice, my art and my pen, and those that relate to that language. I'm thankful I can still find my mental strength when push comes to shove. Yes, some days more than others ...but we are survivors. I'm thankful to still be here, and thankfully, so are you.

From myself and the staff at BFG, we want to remind you, especially today, but really for every day, that we are thankful and grateful for YOU, our readers, blues lovers, and blues friends.

May the spirit of Thanksgiving bring you joy, laughter and a warm heart! Enjoy the "feast" of friends and family... and the comfort of the Blues!

Your e-Guide Editor,
Michele Lundeen

The honorees will be recognized for their achievements during International Blues Challenge (IBC) week at the Keeping the Blues Alive Awards brunch, Friday, January 19, 2024, at 10:30am in the Hyatt Centric in Memphis, Tennessee.

This year's KBA recipients are John Hall, Jacques Garcia, Larry Chambers, Laura Carbone, Lee Oskar, Mark Stenzler, The Columbus Blues Alliance, and Blues Association Turkey. Below are just sippets of these honorees worthy accomplishments.

John Hall is owner and operator of Rhythm Room Entertainment since 1990 (formerly Rhythm Room Records), which produces and promotes some of the leading blues festivals in Massachusetts.

A native of France, Jacques Garcia is a driving force behind numerous endeavors that have fostered a thriving blues community in France.

Songwriter, engineer, promoter, Larry Chambers’ is honored for his dedication to the soul blues genre and his role in promoting and shaping the careers of many artists.

Delmark Records Holiday Concert December 20th
(CHICAGO, IL) - Delmark Records celebrates its 70th anniversary by presenting Delmark Blues & Jazz artists Weds. Dec 20 in a special Holiday Concert at Thalia Hall, 1807 S Allport St., Chicago, Illinois. This holiday extravaganza to close out a year of celebrations will feature a constellation of Delmark recording artists, both blues and jazz musicians.

Demetria Taylor, Sheryl Youngblood, one of the most recent additions to Delmark family, and Carlise Guy and her brother Greg will perform. Carlise and Greg are the daughter and son of Buddy Guy and very talented artists in their own right. Demetria Taylor is, of course, the daughter of the great Eddie Taylor, the sister of Eddie Taylor Jr. and the niece of Jimmy Burns, who is also featured in this concert. Burns will present songs from his upcoming Delmark album with The Soul Message Band, which also will perform some tunes of their electrifying soul-jazz repertoire.

Dave Specter recently celebrated his 30 years on Delmark Records with a luxurious double album on vinyl and CD, which made justice to the brilliancy of one of the top living blues guitar players.

Mike Wheeler is one of the busiest and most powerful artists in the international blues scene and he has already two albums on Delmark. Dave Specter and Mike will be singing and playing guitar, fronting the Delmark All-Star Blues Band.

Muddy Waters’ eldest son Mud Morganfield and Muddy Waters’ guitar player, Rick Kreher will be joined by the Delmark All-Star Band for a vibrant tribute to Muddy. In that way, Delmark will be honoring Chicago’s blues history with the presence of three blues dynasties coming from Muddy Waters, Eddie Taylor and Buddy Guy.

The legendary Billy Boy Arnold will also be signing/selling copies of his new book, The Dreams Of Billy Boy Arnold, during the show.

Delmark Records is the oldest continuously operating blues and jazz label in the world. Founded in 1953 by Bob Koester, Delmark is, since 2018, also a woman-owned business, with Julia A. Miller at the helm as President and CEO.

Peter Veteska & Blues Train :: FULL TILT
Full Tilt is the title of Peter Veteska & Blues Train's seventh release in eight years, but it might just as easily be the musical motto for this hard-charging band of East Coast blues ‘n’ rock guys. They've been playing full tilt for enthusiastic fans up and down the coast since they hooked up in 2013.

They've done well. The band's 2021 release, Grass Ain't Greener On The Other Side, was chosen by Jersey Shore Jazz and Blues Foundation as their entry in the best self-produced record competition at the 2022 International Blues Challenge. And the track "Low Down Dirty Blues" Peter Veteska received an Honorable Mention in the 2022 International Songwriting Competition (ISC) from their 6th album, So Far So Good. Now, as a follow up to that highly touted album, the Jersey guys are back on track and headed for a stop near you with Full Tilt – loaded with eight crisp new tunes from Veteska and four smartly chosen covers.

In addition to the power Train trio of Veteska on vocals and guitar, Alex D'Agnese on drums, and Coo Moe Jhee on bass, they get plenty of help here from Jeff Levine on B3 and piano, Chuck Hearne and Rick Prince on bass, Mike Scott on sax, Tony Perruso on trumpet, Jen Barnes with vocals, and Mikey Jr., adding harp and vocals. It's all tightly packaged by producers Veteska and Joseph DeMaio of New Jersey's Shorefire Recording Studios.
