Rebel Music: Bob Marley & Roots Reggae LA Book Launch
|
Following on from the worldwide publication of the bookstore edition of Rebel Music: Bob Marley & Roots Reggae, photographer and author, Kate Simon has spent the last week in Los Angeles at a series of launch events and signings. The week started with Kate recording an interview for the hugely popular podcast, WTF with Marc Maron, following in the footsteps of previous interviewees, such as President Obama, Tony Hawk and Sigourney Weaver. Kate spoke in detail about her photographic career, Rebel Music and her undimmed admiration for Bob Marley.
The episode is set to air on Thursday 7th December - be sure to tune in! Thursday night saw a launch party hosted by music journalist and Genesis editor Rona Elliot. Kate told stories to accompany a slideshow of photographs recounting her experiences travelling and working with Bob Marley during the Seventies. Among those attending were Robby Krieger of The Doors, renowned artist Shepard Fairey, and reggae expert and Rebel Music contributor, Roger Steffans.
Over the past 30 years, Steffans' reggae archive has grown to include the world's largest collection of Wailers-related material and his contribution to this book was invaluable. On Saturday, in collaboration with Morrison Hotel Gallery, a pop-up exhibition and book signing event took place at the Sunset Marquis Hotel in West Hollywood. Against a backdrop of Kate's beautiful silver gelatin photographic prints, Kate signed books for attendees including the musician, producer and Rebel Music contributor, 'Native Wayne' Jobson, the poet and Beach Boys collaborator, Stephen Kalinich, and musician Eddie Horowitz. Last night Kate took part in a conversation event at the legendary Los Angeles bookshop, Book Soup. Rona Elliot interviewed Kate about the book, her unique access to Bob Marley and her time touring with the Wailers. One of the first Rebel Music Publisher's Copies was on display at Book Soup for readers to view and pre-order. These special copies are signed by Kate, and contributor Patti Smith, and include a small print of Bob Marley. The edition is expected to start shipping in mid-December, secure your copy today at MarleyBook.com.

It will make us very sad if you do, and perhaps your removal will be the one the makes us decide this no longer worth doing at all, and all the information we provide will go away forever and musicians will sit home alone at night and cry because they have no one to play for because no one knows about their shows or music.
