ANNOUNCING THE AKAE BEKA VOCAL, VERSION & WORD-SOUND 7” VINYL SERIES
After relentless requests from DJs, selectors, and sound systems for the 'dub versions' of Akae Beka's music,
we have answered the call! Before Zero Records, in collaboration with I Grade Records, presents the 'Akae Beka Vocal, Version
& Word Sound Series'.

This series marks a turning point in the presence of Vaughn Benjamin, the voice of Akae Beka, and Midnite’s presence in the sound system world, merging vocal and version sound system culture with the deeply spiritual music and word sound of Akae Beka and Tippy I Grade.

We're releasing an exclusive range of 7-inch vinyls from the Akae Beka / I Grade catalogue, featuring I Grade dub versions on the flip side! But that's not all; we've also included the lyrics for each song on the rear of the sleeve. These 7s cut-no-corners — they have been cut fat and heavy by Lewis Hopkin at Star Delta Mastering, offering new sonic perspectives on these already timeless masterpieces.

To kick off the series we are releasing three tracks, taken from 2021’s album ‘Polarities’, produced by Zion I Kings with Tippy I Grade at the helm, now available for the first time as
7” vinyl singles as of Friday 29th March.

Reggae Giant Vaughn Benjamin May Get St. Croix Monument
V.I. Senate hearings can take on colorful and diverse tones, but Tuesday’s hearing to honor reggae personality Vaughn Benjamin, also known as Akae Beka, took on a musical tone. Benjamin died in 2019 at the age of 50. Many of his songs have hit the Billboard Reggae Album Top 10 chart many times.

The Committee on Government Operations, Veterans Affairs, and Consumer Protection was considering commending Vaughn Benjamin for his contributions to reggae music in the Virgin Islands and the global communities, appropriating $45,000 to the Sports, Parks and Recreation Department for the design and construction of the “Vaughn Benjamin Monument,” and naming the waterfront park west of the Marley Homes “The Vaughn ‘Akae Beka’ Memorial Park.”
Testifier Phil Codrington said the best way to talk about Benjamin was to quote from his song lyrics. From various songs, he highlighted these quotes.

“They have low ways sweet and convincing in the beginning the two faces of evil and oppression. True face of negatives and suppression… I am the Kabba stone, the original corner stone the Kabba Stone…Destroying the blueprint so no one can see who is the original and who is the copy.”

Musician and former Energy Office Director Bevan Smith said that Benjamin “deserves this recognition as the most prolific, globally accomplished, and widely respected musician to ever come out of the Virgin Islands.”
Smith also had a couple of favorite quotes from Benjamin’s music. He mentioned, “… your body is your temple, your one and only temple, you are living in the Holy places of the tabernacle of the Most High Jah, love the life you live, lead the life you love … don’t shed no tears …” and “… Black is the color of our Solar System, out of blackness was born the light, Black is the color of the whole universe, your morning starts with darkness, did not your morning start with darkness, well so does tonight, Alpha and Omega I, the beginning and the end …”
Senate President Novelle Francis Jr., who attended the meeting as a non-committee member but as a bill sponsor, said Benjamin was a “reggae giant.”
The committee voted unanimously and favorably to send the act to the Committee on Rules and Judiciary for further action.

Sens. Samuel Carrión, Ray Fonseca, Alma Francis Heyliger, Javan James Sr. and Carla Joseph were among the committee members attending. Sens. Kenneth Gittens and Milton Potter were absent.

New Single from JAY SHEPHARD "HIGHER"
Dive into the mesmerizing world of reggae fusion with Jay Shephard's latest masterpiece, 'Higher,' part of the Natural Vibes Riddim collection. This love song embodies the essence of reggae's soulful beats, infused with modern lyrics, offering a unique auditory experience that sets a romantic tone.

Join Jay Shephard as he takes you on a musical journey that transcends boundaries, blending the rich heritage of Caribbean rhythms with his contemporary sound. The Natural Vibes Riddim produced by Reggae Vibes Music, also features various artists like Jah Cure, Busy Signal, Lutan Fyre, Turbulence and Pressure.

Jamaal Mark Anthony Saunders, known professionally as Jay Shephard, is world renowned for his distinct and original sound. This genre-blending singer is a dynamic reggae fusion artist and vocalist who was born and raised in Nassau, Bahamas.

Early influences by artists such as Bob Marley, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Michael Jackson and Gentleman all form the dynamic vibes released by this eclectic artist. The name “Jay Shephard” resulted from a traumatic near death experience that shifted the entire course of his life. He was shot in the face by a friend, which resulted in young Jamaal loosing his left eye. This entire incident steered Jay onto a spiritual journey of self discovery, where he was gifted with the ability to sing.

In 2013 Jay Shephard landed a distribution deal with SONY Red. Jay has worked with top Jamaican producers Troyton Rami (Black Shadow Records), Miller 9, Dre Day and many more to produce hits like “No Surrender", “Feelings ”, "Go Get It" and "Hold It". Jay continues to make his mark on the international music community with his innovative style and unique sound.

In 2021 Jay was awarded a Billboard for his participation on the "Tropical Houses: Cruises to Jamaica 2nd edition" album. He also published his first book "Take A Shot at Your Dreams", to encourage his listeners to strive for greatness. He continues to work diligently to cultivate his record label Good Vybz Nation LLC.

If you wish (and we really wish you wouldn't) like to be removed from this list, please reply with REMOVE in subject line.

It will make us very sad if you do, and perhaps your removal will be the one the makes us decide this no longer worth doing at all, and all the information we provide will go away forever and musicians will sit home alone at night and cry because they have no one to play for because no one knows about their shows or music.
