Burning Spear's impact on reggae music is profound. A true legend, Spear's legacy through his music is one of self-reliance and self-determination for the African diaspora. With a career spanning over six decades, his message remains on point and his vocal delivery is as powerful as it is identifiable.

Winston Rodney began his music career in the late 1960s, attributing his start to a fateful encounter with Bob Marley. Both were living in the St. Ann's parish of Jamaica. As Spear recalls, "Bob was going to his farm. The man was moving with a donkey and some buckets and a fork, and cutlass and plants. We just reason man-to-man and I-man say wherein I would like to get involved in the music business. And Bob say, 'All right, just check Studio One.'" It was there that Spear recorded his first two classic albums, "Burning Spear" and "Rocking Time."

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Burning Spear rocked the reggae world, releasing acclaimed albums such as "Social Living," "Hail H.I.M." and "Resistance." His music evolved to incorporate elements of jazz, funk, and rock, while maintaining its solid roots reggae foundation.

Burning Spear has won two Grammy Awards for Best Reggae Album; one at the 42nd Grammy Awards in 2000 for "Calling Rastafari," and one for 2009's "Jah Is Real." He has been nominated for a total of 12 Grammy™ Awards. He was awarded the Jamaican government's Order of Distinction for outstanding services to music in 2007.

Since establishing their own label Burning Music Records, Winston and Sonia Rodney have released nearly forty singles, CDs, DVDs and vinyl albums on the Burning Music imprint.

In addition to his music career, Burning Spear is a dedicated anti-racism activist and philanthropist. He has been involved in various social and political causes throughout his career, including the fight against apartheid in South Africa, the struggle for independence in Zimbabwe and his campaign to raise awareness of the teachings of Marcus Garvey.

Burning Spear's legacy as a reggae icon is everlasting, and his music continues to inspire and uplift audiences around the world. His influence can be heard in the work of countless artists who have followed in his footsteps, and his message of love and unity remain as relevant today as ever.

The much-anticipated jazz festival is set to captivate music lovers of all ages with multiple stages and an eclectic lineup that includes co-headliner bassist and founding member of Return to Forever Stanley Clarke, South African singer-songwriter and guitarist Jonathan Butler, singer Judith Hill, noted saxophonist Teodross Avery, and Third World, one of the most popular and longest-lived reggae bands of all time. The main stage will be hosted by comedian and actor Capone and award-winning journalist Roland Martin of the Black Star Network. Doors open at 12 noon.

The day-long festival will include a curated Visual Artist Marketplace featuring Black artists, art dealers, and galleries selling original paintings, limited edition prints, home decor, accent pieces, and gifts.

An exciting slate of emerging artists will be featured on the second stage. “The Dymally International Jazz and Arts Festival is not just a concert--it’s a destination and a celebration of creativity, innovation, and the enduring legacy of jazz music,” explained festival founder Dr. Anthony Samad. “Join us for a day of unforgettable performances, meaningful connections, and shared experiences that will resonate long after the final note has been played”

The festival is produced by Rainbow Promotions.

Since 2019, the Dymally International Jazz Arts and Arts Festival has used artistic culture to promote and inspire thought in honor of the late Mervyn Dymally, an internationalist who traveled to over 60 countries throughout his political
career-promoting the exchange of cultures throughout the world. The Festival seeks to honor his legacy in bringing the best of jazz and jazz-influenced music, arts, and culture to Cal State University, Dominguez Hills, and surrounding communities.

The proceeds of the annual event benefit university programs such as the CSUDH Presidential Scholars and non-profit programs, The Dymally Fellows Program, and the African American Leadership Training Summit.

NYC~ THIRD WORLD & special guests GRAMPS MORGAN, LUCIANO & KUMAR PERFORMING AT THE ISSA TRUST FOUNDATION’S “FOR THE CHILDREN” GALA AT CIPRIANI 42nd STREET, NYC MAY 11
The inaugural Issa Trust Foundation “For The Children” New York Charity Gala, held at Sony Hall in November of 2022, was such a sold-out success that for the second staging on May 11th of this year, the organizers chose a bigger venue -  the prestigious  Cipriani 42nd Street in Manhattan.

"We are looking forward to our second 'For The Children' Gala at Cipriani 42nd Street on Saturday, May 11, with our Goodwill Reggae Ambassadors Third World and special guests Gramps Morgan, Luciano and Kumar,” Paul Issa, Chairman of the Issa Trust Foundation, stated. “The funds raised will go to complete the construction of the Mary Issa Pediatric and Adolescent Health Centre in St Ann, Jamaica," he said.

“It’s going to be a fantastic evening – starting with cocktails at 6:30pm, a Cipriani-standard served gourmet dinner, silent auction, dancing, and a spectacular show with these all-time reggae greats.”

Patron of the Issa Trust Foundation, Lady Allen, wife of the Governor-General of Jamaica Sir Patrick Allen, will be in attendance, as well as other very special guests from Jamaica.

The Issa Trust Foundation has begun construction of The Mary Issa Pediatric and Adolescent Health Centre at Richmond, St Ann, Jamaica, which will provide general physical and mental health support for the children and teens in Jamaica’s North Coast area. Throughout the year, with visiting specialists, the Centre will offer expertise in pediatric cardiology, nephrology, gastroenterology, and oncology. Other services will also be offered, such as vision screening along with free glasses if needed.

"Healthy children are the foundation of a thriving society. Investing in their health today ensures a brighter, more prosperous future," shared  Diane Pollard, President & CEO of the Issa Trust Foundation, a US-registered 501(c)3 non-profit.

"Our facility will be the first health center to specifically cater to children and teenagers, offering pediatric health care and adolescent services to the youth of the Ocho Rios general area, with a holistic approach that considers not only the physical but the mental and social support for our young people,” Pollard added.
