Alki UCC Weekly Messenger September 4, 2025
From the Pastor
Dear Alki UCC,

It will be a joy to welcome Rev. Phil Hodson to our church and to the pulpit this Sunday!

As Designated Conference Minister of the Pacific Northwest Conference of the United Church of Christ, Phil is truly pastor to the pastors. I immensely appreciate his guidance, wisdom and prayers.

I have had the pleasure of getting to know Rev. Phil through my work on the Church Development Committee, and we share a passion for the importance of new church starts and empowering those who are sensing a call to innovative ministry.

Rev. Phil Hodson joined the Pacific Northwest Conference as Acting Conference Minister on February 1, 2024. At a special vote of the Conference, the delegates approved him as the Designated Conference Minister in September of 2024. Phil comes to us from the South Central Conference, where he served as Conference Minister. Before that, he was a local pastor specializing in new church starts and revitalizations. He is passionate about church growth, made possible by sharing our values in the public square. Phil and his wife Joelle are the proud parents of Xander, Xane, Xackary and Xavier. They currently reside in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Stay after worship for a Q & A with Rev. Phil to ask questions about the Conference or anything else you’d like to ask!

In hope,
Pastor Emily

Bible Study Resumes Tuesday, September 9
Join us via Zoom for our ongoing Tuesday Bible Study as we gather again this fall beginning September 9.

Led by Pastor Emily and Rev. Penny, we meet from noon to 1:30 pm for spiritual practice, deep listening and wisdom-seeking.

Faith formation is what happens when we set aside our own agendas, individually and collectively, and show up for God. Our faith is formed when we listen to our own inner longing in response to God’s call in our hearts.

Join us for the journey!

If you already registered, just use your same unique link to join us. OR sign up to attend here.

Attend all sessions, or occasionally ... whatever works for you.
Used Car Donations Benefit Alki UCC!
CARS (Charitable Adult Rides & Services) is dedicated to helping non-profit organizations such as Alki UCC raise thousands of dollars in vehicle donations through successful car donation programs.

CarEasy.org is just what it says — easy. They handle everything from beginning to end of the donation process, including marketing, free pick-up, selling, mailing a thank you letter with tax information to the donor (you!) and most importantly, mailing a check to Alki UCC!

If you would like to donate your used vehicle (car, motorcycle, boat, plane or RV), avoid the hassle of a private sale and benefit Alki UCC in the process, go to CarEasy.org, enter Alki UCC in search under choose a non-profit, and get started! Or call CARS at 1.855.500.RIDE and they will do the rest!

A special shout-out to Diane J for getting this going. Questions: contact the church office.
Pilgrim Firs ... Here We Come!
Thanks to all who registered for the Alki UCC Fall Retreat at Pilgrim Firs! We look forward to gathering with you in Port Orchard, September 19-21.

She notes: "It is a small book, easy to read and full of helpful guidance for anyone interested in learning about meditation and the practice of silence."
