From Dubmatix - This special mix celebrates the voice, vision, and vibration of Martin Campbell, one of the UK’s most dedicated roots reggae artists.

Martin Campbell: Roots Revivalist with a Modern Sound

With haunting vocals, militant riddims, and dubwise production, his sound remains a powerful bridge between the message-driven reggae of the 1970s and today’s global dub revival.

This special mix celebrates the voice, vision, and vibration of Martin Campbell, one of the UK’s most dedicated roots reggae artists. With haunting vocals, militant riddims, and dubwise production, his sound remains a powerful bridge between the message-driven reggae of the 1970s and today’s global dub revival.

This was an artist I’d never crossed musical paths with, so when I first heard “Wicked Rule,” my ears perked up. The music was different, his voice stood out with a unique tone and delivery that made me stop and ask What was that? T’ Then I had to relisten several times to wrap my head around what this guy was doing. Released in 1990, it was a blend of digital dancehall sounds, soundsystem-style steppers, and bass, with minimalist production.

Who is Martin Campbell?

Martin Campbell is a Jamaican-born, UK-raised singer, musician, producer, and engineer whose work has helped preserve the integrity of roots reggae through the decades.Unlike mainstream reggae artists chasing commercial trends, Campbell remained fiercely independent, building his studio, pressing his records, and maintaining complete control over his output. He embodies the DIY ethos of the UK roots movement, and his work speaks directly to the heart of Rastafari culture, social justice, and spiritual elevation.

A Brief Timeline
• Early Life: Born in Jamaica, raised in England — steeped in both Caribbean and UK cultural influences. • 1982: Releases “Jah is My Light” on his own Log On! Records, a spiritual roots track that defines his stripped-down, meditative style. • 1980s–Present: Records dozens of singles and albums, collaborates with sound system producers, and builds a reputation as a quiet legend of UK dub.

Labels & Collaborations
• Log On! Records – His independent label, self-releasing since the early ‘80s. • Hi-Tech Roots Dynamics – A long-time studio and alias collaboration for deeper dub explorations. • Alien Dread – Collaborated on the powerful “Don’t Cry Dub.” • Zion Gate Music / Black Legacy Records – Other key imprints distributing his sound.

ABOUT HOLO HOLO MUSIC FESTIVAL

Holo Holo Music Festival was born from a love of island and reggae music—a genre deeply rooted in connection, culture, and movement. The festival first set sail in 2022 at Frost Amphitheater at Stanford University, bringing together fans to celebrate the vibrant sounds of the islands. With the spirit of holo holo—meaning "to travel, to sail, to move"—the event quickly expanded, reaching new shores in Las Vegas and Sacramento in 2023. By 2024, its journey continued with a highly anticipated stop in San Diego.

Now, in 2025, we’re excited to take Holo Holo even further, bringing the music and community to Oceanside, Las Vegas, Sacramento, Tacoma, and San Diego! As we continue to move and grow, the festival remains a space for connection—where fans can gather for two days of unforgettable performances, incredible food, and the shared love of island and reggae music.

For Good Vibez Presents co-owner Dan Sheehan, Holo Holo is more than just a festival—it’s a reflection of his roots. “Growing up in Ewa Beach, O‘ahu, island music and reggae were the soundtracks of my childhood. These styles—the heartbeat of the islands—are the backbone of my work as a festival producer and venue owner. A big part of Good Vibez Presents is about discovery, and I’m honored to showcase and celebrate these artists at Holo Holo Festivals.”

For over 25 years, Good Vibez Presents has produced hundreds of immersive, multidimensional concerts and festivals across the West Coast, Hawaii, Arizona, North Carolina, and Mexico. They are the driving force behind the California Roots Music & Arts Festival in Monterey, the largest reggae-rock festival in the country. With a deep commitment to supporting nonprofits, small businesses, and creatives, Good Vibez Presents continues to build events that foster community, uplift artists, and spread positivity.

Holo Holo Music Festival is more than just a gathering—it’s a journey. Enjoy a weekend of incredible music and good vibes! Choose the Holo Holo that is right for you!
