AUSTIN-BASED SINGER, ALAN MOE MONSARRAT COLLABORATES WITH SGT. REMO AND MUSIC FOR LIFE FOR A NEW SINGLE, “JAH WILL HEAL YOU.”

Austin-based record label Music For Life releases new reggae single, “Jah Will Heal You” from Alan Moe Monsarrat and Sgt. Remo. This is the 3rd single of Moe’s for 2025, leading up to his album, Fabulous Imperfection.

Alan Moe Monsarrat shared his thoughts on the song: “I’m a firm believer in the power of faith. Faith can heal when no doctor can help. There are countless examples of this phenomenon. This song celebrates that miracle. I know few others as spiritual as my brother Sargent Remo so I asked him to bless this song with his wisdom and talent. All our talents are gifts from H.I. M. Give Thanks and Praise!”

Sgt. Remo said: “It’s a great honor for me to work with Alan ‘Moe’ Monserrat in this song. He is such an iconic figure in the Austin reggae scene. Jah Will Heal You is a feel-good song. I really enjoyed being part of this one”

Producer RJ Johnson said: “I loved the concept of this song when Moe told me about it. Jah will heal us, if we decide to allow him to do it.”

ABOUT ALAN MOE MONSARRAT
Alan Moe Monsarrat was born in the midst of mysterious and unbelievably bizarre circumstances in August of 1951. There were many babies such as Moe in Phenix City, Alabama, the town known at the time as “The Wickedest City in America,” babies were bought or stolen on a regular basis, then sold. Moe was raised as their own by his parents of record, George and Wilma Monsarrat. George was a distinguished military man and Wilma was a prominent local resident.

Moe grew up on military posts across the United States and in Japan. He started down the path of public performance at a very early age, singing in the church choir. Having barely reached his teens, he was recruited by older members of a local band in Tokyo who heard him singing in the showers during gym class. Moe began playing Reggae in Hawaii in 1973 and later he co-founded the first reggae band in Texas, The Lotions. He now performs with The Mau Mau Chaplains and Music For Life in Austin. During the 2018 Austin Reggae Festival, the Mau Mau Chaplains received a proclamation from the City of Austin declaring that day as “Mau Mau Chaplains Day” in Austin. They were recognized for doing more than 500 shows at their weekly residency on Wednesday nights at Flamingo Cantina for more than 10 years. Moe continues to do his weekly residency with The Mau Mau Chaplains streaming through Flamingo’s Facebook page live from Austin’s historic 6th Street Entertainment District and also on the Austin Music Network on Spectrum.

ABOUT SGT. REMO:
Sgt. Remo – Rub-A-Dub Souljah Bridging Borders Through Reggae - Sgt. Remo is a Mexican-American reggae artist blending Jamaican roots with Texas borderland consciousness. Hailing from Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, and based in San Antonio, TX, Sgt. Remo (born Sergio Ortiz) brings a powerful, authentic voice to reggae with music rooted in cultural pride, unity, and resistance. Inspired by reggae’s revolutionary spirit, he began performing in the early 2000s and quickly found his voice in the genre. In 2012, he made his international debut with the Life is for Living EP, released on his independent label, Jah Yutes Entertainment (JYE). Since then, he has emerged as one of Texas’ most prominent reggae talents.

His 2014 album Give Thanks for Life delivered the underground hit Rastafari Way, earning critical recognition from New York’s AIRM Top 30 Reggae Albums and Denmark’s Reggae Moods Top 15 Roots & Culture Albums of the Year. He followed with a string of releases, including Sgt. Remo & Friends (2016), Here We Come Again (2019), and Jah Neva Leave (2022), a 12” vinyl project featuring reggae legends Ranking Joe, Lutan Fyah, and Chezidek.
His latest studio album, Reach the Top (2025), continues his mission of conscious reggae with 10 tracks and standout collaborations featuring Fidel Nadal, Dre Z Melodi, and Chezidek.

A dynamic performer, Sgt. Remo tours extensively across the U.S., Mexico, and Latin America, with recent appearances at Rototom Colombia, a seven-date tour in Chile, and performances in Mexico City.
Beyond the stage, he’s the driving force behind King Remo Music, a label that has produced much of his catalog, including the acclaimed Reggae SoulJahs Worldwide compilation series (2011–2025).

Sgt. Remo’s music is more than sound—it's a movement, a message, and a bridge between cultures.

Pioneering singer Owen Gray ‘dies in his sleep’
‘A wonderful human being and a fantastic artiste’

Owen Gray, the pioneering singer who is often hailed as “Jamaica’s first home-grown star”, passed away on Sunday morning at his home in England. Gray’s lifelong friend, Anthony ‘Chips’ Richards, confirmed to The Gleaner that the 86-year-old foundation singer, who was diagnosed with lung cancer four years ago, “appeared to have died in his sleep”.

“Owen and I were friends since 1965 ... we were very, very, very close. On two occasions we lived in the same house in England,” Richards said. “He was a wonderful, fun, human being and a fantastic artiste. I am really going to miss Owen a lot.”

Winston Francis, another of Jamaica’s musical pioneers who also resides in England, remembered Gray as “a fantastic guy”.

“He was 86 years old and looking at him you could not believe it. Owen has done a lot for the music and his children can be very proud of his accomplishments,” Francis told The Gleaner.

Richards, who recorded several albums with Gray, shared that it was a call from his music friends Derrick Morgan and Blackbeard on Sunday morning asking about Owen Gray that spurred him into action.

From Dubmatix - Burning Spear – Deep Cuts and Hidden Gems - An hour-long journey

Burning Spear—born Winston Rodney in St. Ann’s Bay, Jamaica—is not just a reggae artist; he is a vessel of history, resistance, and Rastafari wisdom. While his better-known songs, such as "Marcus Garvey," "Columbus," and "Slavery Days," defined 1970s roots reggae, there’s a rich body of lesser-known tracks that offer just as much power, insight, and sonic magic.

This one-hour mix delves into a deeper catalog: unreleased takes, dub versions, extended disco mixes, and forgotten B-sides that still resonate with Spear’s unwavering spiritual and political voice. These are songs for those ready to go beneath the surface.

Burning Spear: History, Impact, and Legacy

The Roots
Burning Spear's career began in the late 1960s, mentored early on by Bob Marley, who introduced him to Studio One. His early recordings—such as “Door Peep Shall Not Enter”—showed a deep commitment to spiritual and cultural themes, long before “roots reggae” became a recognized genre.

Cultural Impact
Spear’s lyrics are grounded in Rastafari teachings, Pan-Africanism, and a burning desire to reclaim African identity.
His 1975 album Marcus Garvey (Island Records) was a breakthrough, pushing black consciousness to the global reggae stage. Songs honored Marcus Garvey as a prophet and challenged colonial narratives.

Musical Style
Known for his chanting vocal delivery—half song, half sermon—Spear’s music combines minimalist rhythm sections, Nyabinghi drums, and horn-heavy arrangements.
His dubs are meditative, his choruses chant-like, and his production often raw and hypnotic.

Legacy
Nominated for 12 Grammy Awards, with two wins (2000’s Calling Rastafari and 2009’s Jah Is Real).
Still performing into his 70s, Spear remains a powerful stage presence, proving his music is timeless, not trendy.

Why These Deep Cuts Matter
These tracks are less polished than the hits, but that’s what makes them special. They give us Spear unfiltered:
“Swell Head” and “Free Black People” deliver raw lyrical fire.

“Dub Man” and “Natural (Version)” showcase deep echo chamber explorations.
“Do The Reggae (12” Mix) and “Institution (Disco Mix)” are prime examples of Spear navigating dancefloor grooves while still keeping his roots intact.

These are songs that slipped through the cracks—not because they lacked quality, but because the mainstream couldn’t always hold the depth of Spear’s message.

Cheers

Art of Reggae poster auction raises over J$850,000

Art of Reggae poster auction raises over J$850,000

69 pieces sold for Alpha School of Music

The National Gallery of Jamaica (NGJ), in collaboration with the International Reggae Poster Contest (IRPC), successfully hosted the Art of Reggae Exhibition Auction on Sunday, July 13, marking the official close of the exhibition.

The auction raised approximately J$852,000, with 69 posters sold from the globally curated exhibition. Proceeds from the event will go toward supporting the Alpha School of Music’s mission to provide high quality music education for aspiring young professionals.

Joshua Chamberlain, special projects coordinator at the Alpha School of Music stated that, “The International Reggae Poster Contest continues to create valuable community-building opportunities for Alpha students and the school at large. We have to thank the contributors, the organisers, and the National Gallery of Jamaica for this amazing opportunity.” Led by renowned artist and gallery owner Douglas Reid, the auction attracted enthusiastic bidders and supporters from various sectors. Notable attendees included Ms. Yang Xiaorong (Chargé d’Affaires, Chinese Embassy), Zhu Ge (director, political section), 16 members of the Chinese Embassy, representatives from the German Embassy, and cultural critic Professor Carolyn Cooper.

“The auction not only highlighted the global influence of Jamaican reggae music but also reinforced the cultural interconnectedness between visual arts and music,” said Nadine Boothe Gooden, senior director of the National Gallery of Jamaica, during the highly anticipated event.

Themed Jamaican Roots of Hip-Hop, this year’s contest received 601 poster submissions from 560 artists across 55 countries. Of these, 100 were selected and displayed at the National Gallery of Jamaica as part of the 9th International Reggae Poster Contest exhibition, with notable entries from countries such as China, the US and UK, Turkey, Ireland and Poland. In a historic first, Jamaican graphic artist Matthew McCarthy placed second, making him the highest ranking Jamaican in the contest’s history. His work, along with others, celebrated the legacy of DJ Kool Herc, the Jamaican born pioneer of hip hop and creator of the breakbeat.

Sean Paul donates $1.5m to support FFP Band Camp
Superstar Sean Paul continues to champion the power of music education by donating more than $1.5 million to Food For the Poor (FFP) Jamaica’s Band Camp initiative – a programme that offers musical training and life skills to youths from under-served communities.

The generous contribution from the Sean Paul Foundation will underwrite essential expenses that keep the Band Camp operational and inclusive. These include stipends for participants to cover transportation costs, daily lunches, janitorial support, stipends for facilitators and life skills coaches, new musical instruments, branded T-shirts and further strengthen the initiative. The donation marks another chapter in Sean Paul’s longstanding partnership with Food For the Poor Jamaica and his mission to amplify hope and opportunity for Jamaica’s most vulnerable.
Executive director of FFP Jamaica, William Massias, expressed deep appreciation for the artiste’s continued support.
“It’s such an awesome honour and privilege to be able to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Sean Paul Foundation for its generosity and support to Food For the Poor Jamaica, especially their kindness towards our Band Camp mission, as they have made a significant impact on the lives of those we serve. With the help of partners like Sean Paul and his team, our strategy is to support individuals who can in turn make meaningful contributions towards building self-sustaining communities,” said Massias

Sean Paul first supported the programme in 2022 through his foundation and has since become an advocate for its long-term impact. His message to past graduates has emphasised the importance of carrying Jamaica’s musical legacy forward.

“You know that our country has a diverse musical expression that has impacted the world, and you are the future of that. To every one of you who gets to keep your instruments, that is your weapon of being a reggae soldier right now,” said Sean Paul in an address delivered last year via his co-manager Steve Wilson.

Launched more than 13 years ago, FFP Band Camp has grown from a summer-only programme into a year-round support, offering training to more than 300 students in trumpet, drums, bass guitar, trombone, saxophone, clarinet and keyboards.

Several of these young musicians have returned as instructors or joined the in-house band, an ensemble born from the programme itself. Band Camp is conducted in two phases: Summer Band Camp (July-August) and a Saturday camp that runs from September through June. Beyond musician technique, students gain confidence, discipline, and leadership skills through mentorship and structured like skills sessions.
Among them is 18-year-old Daina Craig, a clarinettist whose experience at Band Camp helped her uncover a deeper passion.

“The expert instruction and guidance I received helped me to grow exponentially as a clarinettist … but what I didn’t anticipate was discovering a new passion for singing. Band Camp has developed my life in an extraordinary way. I’ve developed greater confidence, discipline, and artistry. I’m deeply grateful to our generous sponsors for investing in my artistic growth,” Craig said.

ABOUT HOLO HOLO MUSIC FESTIVAL

Holo Holo Music Festival was born from a love of island and reggae music—a genre deeply rooted in connection, culture, and movement. The festival first set sail in 2022 at Frost Amphitheater at Stanford University, bringing together fans to celebrate the vibrant sounds of the islands. With the spirit of holo holo—meaning "to travel, to sail, to move"—the event quickly expanded, reaching new shores in Las Vegas and Sacramento in 2023. By 2024, its journey continued with a highly anticipated stop in San Diego.

Now, in 2025, we’re excited to take Holo Holo even further, bringing the music and community to Oceanside, Las Vegas, Sacramento, Tacoma, and San Diego! As we continue to move and grow, the festival remains a space for connection—where fans can gather for two days of unforgettable performances, incredible food, and the shared love of island and reggae music.

For Good Vibez Presents co-owner Dan Sheehan, Holo Holo is more than just a festival—it’s a reflection of his roots. “Growing up in Ewa Beach, O‘ahu, island music and reggae were the soundtracks of my childhood. These styles—the heartbeat of the islands—are the backbone of my work as a festival producer and venue owner. A big part of Good Vibez Presents is about discovery, and I’m honored to showcase and celebrate these artists at Holo Holo Festivals.”

For over 25 years, Good Vibez Presents has produced hundreds of immersive, multidimensional concerts and festivals across the West Coast, Hawaii, Arizona, North Carolina, and Mexico. They are the driving force behind the California Roots Music & Arts Festival in Monterey, the largest reggae-rock festival in the country. With a deep commitment to supporting nonprofits, small businesses, and creatives, Good Vibez Presents continues to build events that foster community, uplift artists, and spread positivity.

If you wish (and we really wish you wouldn't) like to be removed from this list, please reply with REMOVE in subject line.

It will make us very sad if you do, and perhaps your removal will be the one the makes us decide this no longer worth doing at all, and all the information we provide will go away forever and musicians will sit home alone at night and cry because they have no one to play for because no one knows about their shows or music.
