Alki UCC Weekly Messenger October 30, 2025
From the Pastor
Dear Alki UCC,

This week in Bible Study we talked about how we wish those in power in our country would read and take seriously the verses in the Bible that teach us how to treat immigrants and refugees.

One said, “I’m going to send the verses we’ve studied to the President.” Another had the idea to send them to our democratic representatives, so that they could spread the word. And then another added that we could send them to Christian Nationalist organizations.

We all agreed that this was some good that we could do, and decided to expand the invitation to all of you. You can find the body of the letter linked below, to adapt if you’d like, copy and paste into a contact form:
Letter with Bible verses about immigrants and refugees

You can write to the President and VP here.

You might also send the verses to our democratic representatives: Senator Patty Murray, Senator Maria Cantwell and Representative Pramila Jayapal. This link from UCC will auto-populate with contact info for all three officials.

Or perhaps even a Christian Nationalist Group, such as Turning Point USA.

However one interprets Scripture, whether metaphorically or literally or anything in between, there is no mistaking God's intent for us to love immigrants and refugees.

God has commanded us to have mercy on them and treat them as we want to be treated.

It could not be stated more plainly in Scripture. Love Knows No Borders! Spread the word!

Autumn Festival/Art Market Highlights
What an amazing array of gifts and talents our congregation has! Our creativity, organization and hard work produced Alki UCC’s first ever and very successful Autumn Festival and Art Market event.

Thank you to everyone who helped plan, who created countless forms, who encouraged artists to participate, who advertised, who baked, who set up, who decorated, who cooked, who attended and who cleaned up. And special thanks to the artists who shared their unique work with us.

A true team effort made for a fun and festive atmosphere, many compliments, and best of all, an event for the community.

Let's do it again next year, but a little earlier, on Saturday, October 10. Mark your calendars now!
— Vicky S

Congrats to our own Diane J for winning the Great Pumpkin "Guess the Weight" Raffle. Check out this terrific photo and mention in the West Seattle Blog!

Tuesday Bible Study at Noon
Join us via Zoom for our ongoing Tuesday Bible Study.

Led by Pastor Emily and Rev. Penny, we meet from noon to 1:30 pm for spiritual practice, deep listening and wisdom-seeking.

Faith formation is what happens when we set aside our own agendas, individually and collectively, and show up for God. Our faith is formed when we listen to our own inner longing in response to God’s call in our hearts.

Join us for the journey!

If you already registered, just use your same unique link to join us. OR sign up to attend here.
