All Hallows' Eve

All Hallows' Eve is the evening before All Saints' Day, November 1st. The name is a contraction of the Old English "All Hallows' Evening," where "hallow" means holy.

The holiday is the beginning of a three-day Allhallowtide that includes All Saints' Day, a day to honor the saints, then All Souls' Day, November 2nd, a day to pray for the souls of the departed.

In the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced "sow-in") that marks the end of the harvest, and the beginning of winter, on this same night the boundary between the living and the dead is blurred, and the spirits of the dead would walk the earth.

Both the Christian and pagan traditions honor the crossover of the seasons, the merging of light and dark, and the thin veil between our world and another, one we can sense, that holds the memories of those we have loved.

While we kids and adults may all enjoy our costumes, jack-o'-lanterns, and trick-or-treating, we *may* also lift up an ear, lift up a heart, for honoring the veil, and the thin edge we walk, between night and day.

This All Hallows' Eve, maybe you light a candle,  lift a draught, or say a loving prayer, for someone dear who *might* just hover a bit closer over your walk, or your dreams.... Hold them closer in your heart, if you believe, as I believe, that no love given is ever lost! It, they, all are there!

And maybe check out (maybe again) the vibrant celebration of life and love that is the animated movie Coco. Whom might you touch with humor and joy, this sacred All Hallows' season?

I'm amazed, blessed, awed, that this monthly ENews has been running, or flying rather, out since January 2006: ten years after I began yoga, and four years after I began teaching it full-time.

I'm thrilled and tickled with where, and whom, Yoga has introduced me to. That includes yoga on the mat, yoga on the Slackline, yoga on the SUP (one wet 'n wild afternoon on the Hudson River with coach Rob Matzkin and our Acroyogi friends) and of course, yoga on other yogis.

And it includes yoga on the harmonium, yoga on the singing bowls, yoga on the meditation cushion .... And on the bouncy waves of our life in this world!

Thank you for walking the journey with me, dancing it onwards with other yogis on and off the mat, in your life. As Ram Dass reminds us, we are all just walking each other home.

Morocco ... Maybe
Beach Maybe ...
Morocco ... Maybe
Mmm... a week in Marrakech and nearby kasbahs ... morning yoga daily, and 2-3x evening yoga ... dinners and excursions ... sunset camel ride ....

Does that sound good? My rockin', vibin' unicorn friend VR Coletti and I are dreaming up, cooking up, a Moroccan Retreat October 2-8, 2026 ... if there are takers to share the love!

We will partner with Qarrya Retreats and co-create something sunny and sweet, sacred and spicy ... If we are meant to and called to do it with you, let me hear from you ...
Beach Maybe ...
Every January or February, my hubby Raul and I fly to bask in the sun, and to be wined and dined at our lovely Puerto Plata all-inclusive DR resort on the Cofresí beaches.

Sometimes, we make a little yoga retreat of it, and we bask and wine and dine with yogis!

For our Winter 2026 escape, we might host something small for 4-8 persons only. To apply with interest, write me!
