Treasure Beach festival postponed as organisers aid recovery efforts
The Treasure Beach Food, Rum and Reggae Festival, originally scheduled for November 7-9 in Treasure Beach, St Elizabeth, has been postponed as organisers focus on supporting local communities following Hurricane Melissa.

The Treasure Beach Food, Rum and Reggae Festival, originally scheduled for November 7-9 in Treasure Beach, St Elizabeth, has been postponed as organisers focus on supporting local communities following Hurricane Melissa.
The Treasure Beach Food, Rum and Reggae Festival, originally scheduled for November 7–9 in Treasure Beach, St Elizabeth, has been postponed, organisers announced. The decision comes after Hurricane Melissa wreaked havoc on the western and southern parishes, prompting festival organisers and its stakeholders to redirect their focus and resources toward rebuilding efforts across Treasure Beach and surrounding areas.

Festival co-director Gregory Wright shared that the team remains committed to supporting recovery efforts, noting that the priority is the people of the Breadbasket Parish.
“Jamaica has been deeply impacted by the passing of Hurricane Melissa. Our hearts are with all the families, farmers, business owners and communities who are currently navigating loss, displacement, and the urgent work of rebuilding. To St Elizabeth, our hearts are with you during this unimaginably difficult period. At this time, the priority is the people– our people. As a result, the 2025 staging of the Food, Rum and Reggae Festival will not proceed in its current form. We are committed to supporting recovery efforts, repairing, rebuilding and standing with the parish we call home,” said Wright.

The organisers are collaborating closely with the BREDS Treasure Beach Foundation, local authorities, and community groups to assess needs and coordinate assistance for affected residents. Efforts will include fundraising, volunteer coordination, and the restoration of key community spaces that have been damaged by the storm.

Festival co-director Jason Henzell also called for additional support, saying, “We ask everyone – locals, diaspora, supporters, friends near and far – to keep St Elizabeth and Jamaica in your hearts and to support however you are able. Whether through donations or volunteering, your support matters. Treasure Beach has always been a place of spirit, unity, and love. Together, we will rebuild stronger, with purpose, and with each other.”
The festival, which made its debut in 2023, was designed to celebrate Treasure Beach’s rich culture, showcasing local food, rum, and reggae music, while supporting farmers, artisans, and the south coast’s tourism sector.

Ticket-holders can expect an update once next steps have been confirmed.

The Peter Tosh Foundation, in partnership with the Jamaica Association of Massachusetts (JAMA) and Jah Workz, Inc., is raising funds to support Peter Tosh Town—the community development initiative rooted in Peter Tosh’s hometown of Bluefields, Westmoreland—in providing immediate hurricane relief to residents impacted by the storm.

Sean Paul, Masicka, D'Angel, Chris Martin, Konshens, Shaggy, Sizzla, Rihanna, Denzel Washington, Steven Tyler, Beenie Man, Richie Stevens, Romeich Entertainment, Khalia, The Bob Marley Foundation, Maxi Priest, Vybz Kartel, Sevana, and many others are helping with relief efforts in a big way. It is heartwarming to see the reggae community coming together to help these communities.

And the global sports community is trading medals for mission as athletes rally to support Jamaica’s recovery from the devastation of Hurricane Melissa. From Olympic legends Usain Bolt @usainbolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce @realshellyannfp to Reggae Boy Leon Bailey @leonbailey and NBA champions Norman Powell and Deandre Ayton, a powerful wave of solidarity has emerged — proving that compassion transcends competition when a nation is in need.

The record-breaking storm left widespread destruction across several parishes — including St Elizabeth, St James, Clarendon, Westmoreland, and Hanover — crippling infrastructure and livelihoods. While the Jamaican Government and humanitarian organizations spearhead the rebuilding process, sports icons are using their platforms and resources to make a real impact.

Olympian Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce continued her relief efforts delivering care packages to residents in communities affeted by Melissa along the St. Elizabeth and Westmoreland Border. Pocket Rocket Foundation.

Support Jamaica's Farmers After Hurricane Melissa
Greetings, my name is Baba Ross-Walcott.

Hurricane Melissa recently ravaged the island nation of Jamaica. We are raising funds to help farmers in the western part of Jamaica that were affected by the devastation. As a farmer, myself, I understand how critical it is when you lose your livelihood. I lived through Hurricane Gilbert 37 years ago with my wife Mharia, who was pregnant with our daughter. I experienced great loss myself at that time.

In March of this year, I visited the western region and have a fresh memory of my beautiful island country and the resilient people who are sustaining the local food system. From the breadfruit and coconut trees, plantain and banana and all varieties of fruit trees to the ground crops of yellow yam, cassava and every kind of vegetable– people need fresh food to sustain themselves!

We will focus this support for four established farmers in the parish of Hanover, with tools and amendments, water lines and seeds to anchor the land for sustainable food production in the coming weeks and years.

Please help support this great cause by donating to our GoFundMe.

It will support the small farmers to restore the land and feed the people of this great country.

Thank you so much for your generosity and kindness.

One Love! Jamaica Rise!

Editor's note: RFG are personal friends with Baba Ross-Walcott and support this gofundme effort wholeheartedly.
