My husband and I celebrated our 42nd anniversary this month! We traveled early December to Iceland, a magical landscape full of volcanoes, geysers, geothermal pools, and continental rifts like this one: the North American tectonic plate on the left, and Europe/Asia plate on the right!
We enjoyed lamb, fish stew, Icelandic beer, visiting friendly Icelanders, proud descendants of Viking explorers ... We enjoyed learning about history and geology, enjoyed the 4 hours of daylight each day, enjoyed the frozen nighttime haze, staring at skies that hid their magic lights from us from behind thick clouds.
We returned to NYC snow our first morning back - shown in my window scene above! We found NYC colder than Reykjavic, and grey skies too!
And yet, the snowflakes ... each one unique, and yet connected in order, in pattern ... in coherence....
Every human mythology tells stories of glimmers of light in the darkness. Hear Texas' Senatorial hopeful James Talarico tell his family's challenging personal Christmas story and connect it to major faith traditions that teach about hope in the darkness. May it you help this new year's, or whenever, if ever, the darkness feels oppressive.
Every art, science, tech, explorer, philosophy, and mystical tradition speaks about coherence as a source of creative energy in the universe; the unique balance of freedom and individuality on the one hand, balanced with connection and communion, as the magnificent balance of generative beauty.
As we move into a New Year, I share what I've been offering students this week from leadership coach Lisa Nichols' prompts for a daily mirror practice. Use it how you wish: for New Year's, or as a meditation or journaling reflection, anytime.
"[Your Own Name], I'm proud of you ..."
"[Your Own Name], I forgive you ..."
"[Your Own Name], I commit to you ..."

Anyone else wish they lived in a tropical clime? Maybe being born in Taipei is why I prefer 80 fahrenheit to 30 degrees fahrenheit? I mean, my son who was born in November in New York prefers winter!

My Manila-born husband also loves sunny climes. So, we're flying away (under 4 hours from NYC) to our all-inclusive DR resort, over Valentine's week. If you want a Feb beach escape too, talk to me!

February 10-15
DR Love Retreat
We're sharing our suite with a sweet yoga student, and willing to add rooms or suites for more sweet peeps who want to share sun, sand, smiles ... & sweetness! Come bask in the sun with us!
