Dear Alki UCC,
This Lent, let us open our arms wide to Love’s invitation. May we say, Tell Me Something Good, and hear again the Good News of God’s love.
This prayer from A Sanctified Art from our Ash Wednesday service reminds us that the invitation from God never expires:
Loving God, you invite us deeper into faith, deeper into relationship, and deeper into community. You invite us to your table, but we cling to the wall. We RSVP “Maybe.” We come up with excuses for why we can’t attend. Forgive us for doubting the invitation, and forgive us for doubting our worth. Show us how to respond to you with confidence instead of hesitancy, and joy instead of doubt. With gratitude we pray, amen.
No matter how many times we mess up, no matter how many times we lose our way, no matter how many times we decline God’s invitation, God will never stop inviting us to the table. There is and always will be a seat saved for you. So let us remember these good news words: We are forgiven, again and again. We are invited, again and again. We are loved, from beginning to end. Thanks be to God, who always invites us.
In hope,
Pastor Emily

"Hearts for Alki UCC"
What a lovely community party!
|
The kitchen hummed with activity: boiling pastas, tossing salads, plating desserts, setting out the bounty. Lasagnas, rich meat sauce, Beecher's Mac & Cheese and Eggplant Parmesan arrived hot ready to eat. The tables were set with festive flowers, valentines and bubbly Pellegrino. What a feast!
Then we danced.
Oh did we dance! Bowing to our partner, do-si-dooing (which way do you go around?), discerning left from right in a heartbeat (oops! wrong way), somehow finding our way back "home." What fun!!
Do it again? Yes!
Our "Hearts for Alki UCC" fundraiser was a rousing success! Together, we raised more than $9k (stretch goal was $6k). And it's not over yet ... many of you have exciting experiences ahead: cabin trips, Maui condo, dancing with Pastor Emily, hosted Dim Sum lunch, deck and patio summer dinners — what joy! What a beautiful way to get to know each other more and build this beloved community.
Deepest gratitude to all who helped out, volunteered time, talent and treasure — we did this for each other and we will reap the bounty of each others' love and presence.
And God danced with us.
— Cinda S
Thanks to Theo J for the above photos ... FYI, that's Square Dance Caller Extraordinaire Diane J (or rather her feet!) peeking out from behind the festive petticoats she brought for folks to do-si-do in style!

Westside Interfaith Network (WIN)
An invaluable community resource ...
|
For those of you who are unfamiliar ... Both Alki UCC and our partner synagogue, Kol Ha Neshamah, are active members of the Westside Interfaith (WIN).
From the WIN website:
We are an interfaith group in the West Seattle-White Center area working together to address the needs of our neighbors through service, compassion and action.

Our own Cinda S is WIN's President.
Consider subscribing to the WIN newsletter, sent out when there are events of immediate interest to our collective community. You'll read about a range of opportunities to have your voice heard and make a difference.

Merciful God, we give you thanks. We give you gratitude for the beauty of this life, for our relationships and our community of faith.
We pray for all those who grieve.
May they find strength and peace.
We pray for all who seek comfort, guidance or healing.
We lift them up to your loving care.
We pray for our wider world.
We pray for the earth, your good creation entrusted to our care. We pray for those affected by violence, war, and disaster. We pray for leaders to act with integrity and be held accountable for their actions.
In prayer, O God, you hear us and know us. In prayer, we are unburdened and restored. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
