Reggae Festival Guide (RFG) Catches up with Rootsie from Reggae Road Trip
|
Regge Road Trip to Jamaica is an immersive, Ultimate Reggae Travel
Experience Through Rhythm and Culture"
Reggae Festival Guide (RFG) Catches up with Rootsie from Reggae Road Trip to find out more...
What project are you currently working on? I’m currently working on Reggae Road Trip happening in Kingston, Jamaica April 23-27, 2026. Reggae Road Trip is a five-day reggae music travel experience designed to connect international fans of early reggae with the iconic artists and pioneers from that era. Over five days in Jamaica, we take attendees to legendary reggae museums, record shopping, and reggae-celebrity sightseeing tours, culminating with an intimate meet-and-greet with 18 to 20 reggae legends. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to rub shoulders, get autographs, take photos and hear their personal stories—information you simply can’t find online.
What inspired you to start Reggae Road Trip? I’ve been fortunate over the past 30 years to build strong relationships with iconic reggae legends. Working in the reggae music business as a DJ, radio host, and event promoter, I’ve interviewed them, created shows and have been embraced by them as if I was family. This passion led me to create something new—Reggae Road Trip. I realized that my unique access to these legends—people like Ken Boothe, Burning Spear, and Marcia Griffiths—was something most fans couldn’t access. I wanted to honor these veterans, preserve their legacy, and give fans worldwide an intimate chance to connect.
What unique experiences can attendees expect from this year’s event? This inaugural Reggae Road Trip in Kingston, Jamaica, will be truly extraordinary. Beyond record shopping at both iconic stores and exclusive private dealers, we’ll visit the historic Alpha Boys School—a legendary institution that birthed many reggae greats. The celebrity home tour is unprecedented—guests will see where legends live(ed) and sometimes be surprised by a pop-out visit. We’ll also explore legendary restaurants, studios, and street corners where these artists gather(ed). Plus, we offer special upgrades—attendees can spin music at events, experience studio sit-ins, and do one-on-one interviews. Every element is guided by a former insider from the scene, ensuring an authentic, once-in-a-lifetime experience.
What challenges have you faced in organizing Reggae Road Trip? One major challenge is that we’re the new kids on the block—a fresh concept trying to reach international reggae fans. Our name and website are still building momentum, and since we’re based in New York, reaching these global audiences has been tricky. Another tough challenge is that some of the artists we planned to work with, like Jimmy Cliff, have sadly passed away. It’s a delicate age group, and a couple of the legends we’re still collaborating with are ailing. Our hope is simply that they recover, both for their own well-being and so they can join us on this special journey.
How do you see Reggae Road Trip evolving over the next few years? Reggae Road Trip is set to grow significantly, thanks to all the relationships I’ve built with reggae artists, musicians, soundmen, and music producers worldwide. The plan is to host four Reggae Road Trips annually—one in Jamaica, one in England, one in Canada, and one in New York, which are the main hubs of these veteran artists. We’ve built sustainability into the plan—as some artists that have passed, can be represented by family members and friends to share their stories. And as Reggae Road Trip continues, the talents from the 80s, 90s, and 2000s will eventually become the elders, and we’ll keep honoring the generations as they take their place as legends.
How can people find out about Reggae Road Trip and what should they do now? People can find all the details on our website, and fill out an inquiry form on www.reggaeroadtrip.com We’re still booking packages, and it’s not too late—tickets will be available right up until the last minute. If you’re already planning to be in Jamaica, we offer special discounted shadow tickets—you just pay for daily activities if you have your own lodging and/pr transportation. We also have great package discount opportunities listed on the site. For more info, you can contact us via the website, WhatsApp at 646-266-8703, or our 24-hour Google phone number (929) 382-7320. We’re so excited and can’t wait to see you in Kingston!

Dumatix Shares - The Originator: 18 Tracks of U-Roy (Mix)
|
👉 (You can also download the mix from my Podbean site here: Download Now)
This mix celebrates one of reggae’s most iconic and influential voices, bringing together 18 tracks that showcase the incredible range and legacy of the one and only U-Roy.
U-Roy, born Ewart Beckford in 1942 in Kingston, Jamaica, is widely regarded as the Originator and Godfather of Toasting, the vocal style that laid the foundation for what would eventually become rap and hip hop. Emerging from the vibrant sound system culture of 1960s Jamaica, U-Roy pioneered the art of toasting, improvising spoken word lyrics and ad-libs over existing riddims and rocksteady rhythms. His breakthrough came in 1970 when he simultaneously held the top three spots on the Jamaican charts, an unprecedented feat that announced the arrival of a revolutionary new voice in reggae music.
Over a career spanning more than five decades, U-Roy collaborated with some of reggae’s greatest names, including Big Youth, The Gladiators, Hopeton Lewis, and Cornell Campbell, cementing his status as a true cornerstone of the genre. His influence extended far beyond Jamaica, inspiring generations of DJs, toasters, and MCs worldwide. U-Roy continued recording and performing well into his later years, earning lifetime achievement recognition and the deep respect of artists across multiple genres. He passed away in February 2021, leaving behind a catalog that remains as vital and infectious as ever, making this 18-song mix a fitting tribute to one of music’s true originals.

ANTHONY B, born Keith ANTHONY Blair in 1976, Clarks Towns, Jamaica, began singing in church, like many other reggae legends. After having cut his teeth with Shaggy Hi-Power local sound system, and met other artists such as Determine, Mega Banton, Ricky General, Terror Fabulous or even Little Devon in Portmore, he left for Kingston in 1992. Arrived in the capital, he was quickly spotted by famed producer Richard 'Bell' Bello of Star Trail Records. He released his first single in 1993 "The Living Is Hard", but it was in 1996 with the success of "Repentance Time" that his career really began. Then follow the hits "Rumor", "Raid di barn" and "Fire pon Rome" on his first album "Real Revolutionary" with these explosive lyrics which will make his notoriety, and which will remain engraved in the history of Jamaican music. Since his beginnings marked by Otis Redding and Peter Tosh, who will become his claimed models, and his studies on the teaching of Marcus Garvey, ANTHONY B has been the messenger of political and social demands. The themes he discusses in his songs are rooted in the rasta culture, with a revolutionary touch in addition. Over time, sharpening his pen and injecting strong messages into each of his tracks, the artist has established himself as the voice of the poor, of oppressed peoples across the world. Today, ANTHONY B has to his credit numerous albums that have become classics such as "Universal Struggle", "Street Knowledge" or "Freedom Fighter", hundreds of hits, covered and remixed by top-names production, and a countless sold-out concerts across the world. Proof that ANTHONY B has never left center stage, asserting himself today as a leading artist of dancehall and reggae.
