Watching Ilia Malinin dance on ice ... it's like seeing a unicorn flying through a grim, overly long, Narnia's winter forest.
It's music after madness. It's beauty and relief and breath again.
Alysa Liu's golden joy sparks me the same way!
Both champions candidly share their acceptance of falls, and mistakes.
"I love struggling, it makes me feel alive," says Alysa. For her "there is no way to lose" if we show up. "I connect with everything, but I'm not attached to anything." So Zen!
"Quad God" Ilia shockingly falls twice, and at first devastated, he then writes a beautiful Zen post on fear, on showing up, on reclaiming himself. On being "still myself."
I ride the high of a wonderful beach retreat and a delicious Fly Thai Friday. I regretfully but lovingly cancel a Morocco retreat, to let everyone, especially my co-teacher, focus on the activist stakes of the moment. I love my classes and clients, I excitedly plan a November and February beach retreat ....
And, I wake to find us at war, again, and still. I ride a slow train in to teach. The building shrieks fire alarms; strobe lights flash through my two packed restorative and sound meditation classes.
My friend Frank says mercury is retrograde this week, snarling electronics, communications, travel. Ya think??
How can we be kind to ourselves? For 2026, I vowed to invert more and laugh more. I started great! I rode high! Mornings I'd meditate: "today is going to be my peaceful day." Through the day, "what makes me smile?" ~ a super motto, slogan, peace-power campaign. I highly recommend it.
Then a family member's lifestyle choices disturb me, and I plummet. My heart lies on the ocean floor right next to the Titanic.
How am I so not Zen?
Show up. Breathe. Move. Feel the falls.
Live your inner Alysa and Ilia, Mary. And sometimes, that looks like pillows. Show up for yourself! If you're lucky you can cry, like Ilia in this moving tribute to Flight 5342's skaters....

We have decided, VR and I, to postpone our Morocco adventure until a future date when the temperature is less volatile for those actively speaking out and seeking to fly out and fly back in as well.

Hold that thought! We shall ride camels and cook Tagine and soak in hammams together still yet one day!
Not this October. Stay tuned for updates, and you can also write to be on specific retreat update emails too.
And if you'd like to hop on quick flight to my tropical haven in the Dominican Republic this November or next February, you will have that option!
Sunscreen, sunhat, swimsuit, sass, sizzle. Swim, wine, dine.
Yoga for hedonists anyone?
