Dear Alki UCC,
This past Sunday we wrapped up the Counterweights worship and stewardship series. Listen to my wrap-up sermon in the series here:
Our series may be over, but I'm not letting go of counterweights! The heaviness keeps on coming. We need more counterweights to the chaos.
In her book Counterweights: An Essential Practice for Holding Hope in a Heavy World, Shannan Martin describes gathering little treasures such as pinecones and seaglass to make a time capsule of the season.
She writes, “Marvels are already waiting in the wings, ready to disrupt the violence. When we go hunting for them, expectant in the pallor, they land on the scale with greater force. Proof of healing. Proof of delight. Proof of life. I don’t know what we should do with the endless contradictions, other than wrap our fists around them and stuff them into our pockets like children until we find ourselves healing.
Some might call it clutter. I call it evidence. I was here. I am here.”
I wonder what you would put in your jar? I wonder what you would put in the jar that is us?
I’m going to go gather some treasures.
In hope,
Pastor Emily

From the Stewardship Team
|
Abundance grows where we choose to give!

When we think about stewardship, it’s easy to focus on what we give financially, which is super important. But faithful stewardship is also about balance. As we reflect on our own stewardship, consider what God is calling you to do. How can your time, your talents and your treasure work together to support the mission and life of our church? For the coming year(s), your financial donations remain an important part of stewardship, enabling the church's work to continue and grow, supporting both local ministry and outreach beyond our walls. Giving generously is an expression of trust—trust that God will provide, and that our offerings can be multiplied for greater impact. Last week we observed Commitment Sunday, when the congregation was asked to think prayerfully about time, talent and treasure commitments to this community and your offerings were blessed. If you would like to pledge online, please follow this link. This Sunday, June 21, we will be honoring all of you with the blessings of the coming year and some of you might even win one of the raffle prizes! Together, in balance, we build something strong, sustainable and deeply rooted in faith. Blessings, Shannon

Summer Fun Ride this Sunday
|
We're organizing a series of Summer Fun Rides after worship on Sundays, including this very Sunday, June 21. Join in the fun!
Some of us will ride bikes, some might ride in a car and some may pick up the 775 Free Shuttle. We're all riding something, and we're meeting at the NOON West Seattle Water Taxi by Marination Ma Kai (after hospitality hour).
We'll take the Taxi to the new Seattle Waterfront (have you seen it yet?), walk a half block to Molly Moon's and enjoy a warm summer afternoon together, after which we can all filter back at our own convenience.
A few important points: 1 - Check the weather forecast by Sunday. If it's nice, it's on! 2 - How do we make sure we are going to have fun? By being safe! If you're riding a bike, I strongly recommend wearing a helmet. As this is an off-site event, we're all responsible for our own safety and the safety of others. I happen to have a spare helmet, and others might have one also.
3 - Molly Moon's has vegan and dairy-free options.
If you have a bike that you haven't ridden in ages and might need a bit of TLC, please bring it in and I'll give it a good looking-over. You could get a free bottle of plant-based chain lube (while supplies last).
Please see me at worship this Sunday if you have any questions. I'll also provide any updates to the Summer Fun Ride logistics.— Jeff W

Daughter Sandy sends the following invitation
Dear friends at Alki UCC, Ruth Bell's Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 20,

Merciful God, we give you thanks. We give you gratitude for the beauty of this life, for our relationships and our community of faith.
We pray for all those who grieve. May they find strength and peace.
We pray for all who seek comfort, guidance or healing.
We lift them up to your loving care.
We pray for our wider world.
We pray for the earth, your good creation entrusted to our care. We pray for those affected by violence, war, and disaster. We pray for leaders to act with integrity and be held accountable for their actions.

Invitation to
10:00 am Worship this Sunday,
June 21
|
Come Celebrate Father's Day, Solstice, The Good Word(s) this Sunday.
WOW! We are half way through the calendar year! It is the first day of summer, our Stewardship Raffle Celebration, Father's Day and the 4th Sunday after Pentecost... again, WOW!
Our sermon title is "Father, Sun-Son, Holy Spirit" - "GOOD" working words in progress;-)
Do you recall your Star Word from Epiphany? How do you/we deal with triggering words? Can we change our POV, allowing for progress as well as process??? Is this evolution or revolution or simply "life on life's" terms?
If you want, desire or need a new "Epiphany" Star Word for the remainder of this year, we will have them available.
Come, come, whoever you are; All are Welcome! — Your Sister in Christ Consciousness, Lisa
