Dear Alki UCC,
I am really looking forward to the opportunity for us to gather in Listening Circles at Sunday’s Annual Meeting of the Congregation.
In lieu of a sermon, I will be sharing more about the “what” and “why” of Listening Circles as part of our Annual Meeting. Until then, here is a little intro . . .
A Listening Circle is a facilitated small group experience where each person has an opportunity to speak in turn. In a Listening Circle, we ask questions in order to “hear each other into deeper speech.” We invite honest sharing, and refrain from cross-talk, debate or fixing.
Parker Palmer teaches that the soul is like a wild animal; it only shows up if the environment is safe and hospitable. He writes, “Unfortunately, community in our culture too often means a group of people who go crashing through the woods together, scaring the soul away.” In Listening Circles we are invited to wait patiently for people to share when they are ready. In this Circle, Silence is our friend.
I will be facilitating the Listening Circle for anyone who is participating virtually on Zoom.
After the time in our Circles, we will reconvene and each group will have an opportunity to share something that emerged from their experience.
The intention for this Annual Meeting is that it is not only a celebration of what we have accomplished this year, but has space for everyone in the Alki UCC community (members and non-members alike) to speak their truth and for all to be truly heard.

Call to Annual Meeting

 The Annual Meeting of the Congregation is woven into Sunday worship.
This yearly event celebrates the end of our fiscal year and launches a new chapter for Alki UCC.
Our gathering will include Listening Circles, small group feedback sessions facilitated by members of our Church Council. When we reconvene as a large group we will give voice to what has emerged from the small groups.
All members who attend the meeting, either in person or virtually, are eligible to vote.

Alki UCC July/August Worship Series

 Our July and August worship series at Alki UCC is This Neighborhood, based on the beloved children’s television show, "Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood."
We’ll sing classic songs such as It’s a Beautiful Day in This Neighborhood, It’s You I Like and It’s Such a Good Feeling. Each week will focus on a particular core message that Mister Rogers taught and embodied.
We will have some special visits from neighbors and encounter Scripture in imaginative ways with our own travels to make-believe.

We pray for all those who grieve. May they find strength and peace.
We hold in prayer and ask for comfort
to all who mourn the loss of Jessie,
a dear friend of Julia C.
We pray for all who seek comfort, guidance or healing.
We lift them up to your loving care.
We pray for our wider world.
We pray for the earth, your good creation entrusted to our care. We pray for those affected by violence, war, and disaster. We pray for leaders to act with integrity and be held accountable for their actions.
In prayer, O God, you hear us and know us. In prayer, we are unburdened and restored. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Contemporary Christian Music
Jam Session Wednesday, July 8
|
Calling instrumentalists and vocalists of all abilities!
Come out on Wednesday, July 8 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm in the sanctuary for a contemporary Christian music jam session.
Dust off that guitar, shake that tambourine, come play some keys and sing along. We will be learning two to three contemporary Christian songs together at the jam session. To sign up please email music@alkiucc.org and let us know what instrument you're playing for the jam session.
