Hello, Neighbor!
Alki UCC July/August Worship Series
Sundays at 10:00 am
|
Our July/August worship series at Alki UCC is This Neighborhood, based on the beloved children’s television show, "Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood."
We sing classic songs such as It’s a Beautiful Day in This Neighborhood, It’s You I Like and It’s Such a Good Feeling. Each week spotlights a particular core message Mister Rogers taught and embodied.
We will have some special visits from neighbors and encounter Scripture in imaginative ways with our own travels to make-believe.
If you’ve never watched the show, or it’s been awhile, we invite you to visit the official Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood YouTube Channel and enjoy!
Pastor Emily is on a well-deserved vacation!

Greetings from the Alki Church Council. Hoping your summer has been fun and enjoyable.
This message is to inform all partners and users of the Alki building that we have contracted with VSM Copper to begin removal of the “old building” chimney. Yesterday, the crew started placing scaffolds on the South wall of the old building in the backyard play area.
Chimney removal begins today, July 16. Repairs of damaged and leaking walls/roofs on the third floor section of the church will follow.
The crew estimates the project will take about three weeks; the backyard will be closed for safety during construction.
We look forward to celebrating the work’s completion and thank you all for your support in this project. If you have any questions, please contact any Council member for details and take some time to walk by the project on 62nd Ave. S.W.
Cheers, Julia P Council Moderator

Third Annual Alki UCC-Hosted
"City Night Out" Tuesday, August 4
6:00 to 8:00 pm
|
Since the last two years were such a blast (and success!) we’re joining neighborhoods all over the city in closing streets to host our own neighborhood party on SW Hinds.
Please join us to help set up the event and then welcome our neighbors. Highlights: Diane clogging, food, live music and more!
The SW Hinds Street block will be closed off and we could use some help with logistics. Here’s how you can help:
• Spread the Word the week before (July 27- Aug 2): Two people needed to go door-to door around the church neighborhood to hand out flyers (time at your convenience)
August 4:
• Set Up:
Meet in front of church at 5:15 pm to close off SW Hinds and set out tables & chairs, set up for musician, put out garbage and recycle cans, put out utensils and napkins, etc
• Bring Beverages: Arrive by 5:45 pm to help set out water pitchers or your contributions of ice tea and lemonade.
• Bring and Serve Dessert:
Strawberry Shortcake supplies (strawberries, shortcakes, whip cream or ice cream)
• Take Down/Put Away:
Join the team to put everything away and re-open the street
Stay tuned!
Please contact Cinda to get involved.

July 15 Council Meeting Summary
|
Our Alki UCC Council meeting celebrated recent church accomplishments, including passing our annual budget, making Pastor Emily’s position full-time, and our successful stewardship events.
We also focused on addressing ongoing construction plans and facility maintenance issues. We discussed the chimney and wall repair project, with Joe providing updates on the contractor's work starting this week and addressing concerns about timing and budget. We reviewed bathroom renovation options, deciding to focus on cosmetic upgrades first rather than full ADA compliance, and approved hiring an electrician to install LED lighting in office areas.
The meeting also covered upcoming events including a WIN work day for yard maintenance, an August 4th City Night Out event with Orin (from KHN) performing, and Alki Beach Pride on August 15th.
Stewardship updates showed pledges reaching nearly $180,000, and the council discussed implementing new CRM systems for better donor management and communication.

Merciful God, we give you thanks. We give you gratitude for the beauty of this life, for our relationships and our community of faith.
We pray for all those who grieve. May they find strength and peace.
Prayers of healing and condolence for the family and friends of beloved longtime Alki UCC member Trish Dodds
who is survived by her son and grandchildren currently living in England, and her daughter Lorna and family on Bainbridge Island.
Over the years, Trish had many friends at Alki UCC
and throughout West Seattle.
We hold in prayer and ask for comfort
to all who mourn the loss of Jessie,
a dear friend of Julia C.
We pray for all who seek comfort, guidance or healing.
We lift them up to your loving care.
We pray for our wider world.
We pray for the earth, your good creation entrusted to our care. We pray for those affected by violence, war, and disaster. We pray for leaders to act with integrity and be held accountable for their actions.
In prayer, O God, you hear us and know us. In prayer, we are unburdened and restored. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Summer Fun Rides
Resume Next Sunday, July 26
(weather permitting)
|
We're organizing a series of Summer Fun Rides after worship on Sundays ... Join the fun!
Some of us will ride bikes, some might ride in a car and some may pick up the 775 Free Shuttle. We're all riding something, and we meet at the West Seattle Water Taxi by Marination Ma Kai at (after hospitality hour). Jeff W provides details at Sunday worship.
We take the Taxi to the new Seattle Waterfront (have you seen it yet?), walk a half block to Molly Moon's and enjoy a warm summer afternoon together, after which we can all filter back at our own convenience.
Please see me at worship if you have any questions. I'll also provide any updates to the Summer Fun Ride logistics
