Dear Alki UCC,
“If you look for the helpers, you’ll know that there’s hope.”
When Fred Rogers was a little boy, and he was overwhelmed by the news of a tragedy, his mother reminded him to look for the helpers.
Listen to him talk about it here.
In our penultimate worship service in our This Neighborhood series, we look for the helpers. In particular, we’ll hear from our church custodian Kim Chilcott, who co-founded the Seattle branch of the nonprofit Not One More in 2014.
Not One More is a network of grassroots non-profit chapters to raise community awareness, provide education and offer compassionate support to families and individuals affected by substance use disorder and addiction.
Kim lost her son Thaddeus when he was 22 years old to an accidental heroin overdose. She is dedicated to bringing education and awareness to the drug addiction epidemic.
Come and hear her share about what she has learned from her own journey of grief and her passion for Not One More.
In hope,
Pastor Emily

Merciful God, we give you thanks. We give you gratitude for the beauty of this life, for our relationships and our community of faith.
We pray for all those who grieve. May they find strength and peace.
We pray for all who seek comfort, guidance or healing.
We lift them up to your loving care.
We pray for our wider world.
We pray for the earth, your good creation entrusted to our care. We pray for those affected by violence, war, and disaster. We pray for leaders to act with integrity and be held accountable for their actions.
In prayer, O God, you hear us and know us. In prayer, we are unburdened and restored. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
